The Yankton County Commission met in special session Monday evening to begin the process of revising the county’s zoning ordinance.
Commission Chair Cheri Loest says given the controversy that has surrounded production livestock agriculture locally, Article Five of the zoning ordinance is a logical place to begin the revision.
Planning Commission Chair Kristi Schultz says Yankton County wants to avoid the environmental problems that have been seen in other states such as Iowa.
Planning Commission member Zane Williams says care must be taken not to write zoning regulations in such a way that they discourage agricultural development.
A second special Yankton County Commission meeting on Article Five is set for 9 AM on February 5th.
