Citing an improved ability for both students and teachers to get their work done along with providing a morale boost, the Yankton School Board has approved continuing Friday half-days through the third quarter of the school year.
Superintendent Wayne Kindle says the decision to move to half-days on Fridays came after hearing from teachers throughout the district at a special board meeting last September.
School Board member Frani Kieffer says it may not be a perfect solution, but the schedule change has provided much needed help to teachers.
Superintendent Kindle says by allowing staff time to spend with their families, Friday half-days are also improving morale for teachers.
Continuing the schedule change was approved by the Yankton School Board with the provision that Friday half-days be reviewed again prior to the beginning of the fourth quarter of this school year.
