Yankton Mask Mandate In Effect

Yankton Mask Mandate In Effect

Following approval by the Yankton City Commission last Wednesday, Yankton’s mask mandate in response to the COVID 19 pandemic is now in effect.

Mayor Nathan Johnson says even without an enforcement mechanism, the new ordinance may prompt some citizens to wear masks when they otherwise were not doing so.

Johnson says municipal government is taking a reasonable approach to the issue.

Johnson says scientific evidence points to the effectiveness of both mask wearing and mandates.

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital has donated six thousand disposable face masks to the city for the public’s use. Those masks are available at the Yankton Police Department, Yankton City Hall, and the Yankton Community Library.
