Hospitals throughout the region are continuing to see large numbers of COVID 19 patients including Yankton’s Avera Sacred Heart Hospital.
President and CEO Doug Ekeren says the high numbers of COVID 19 patients is putting a significant strain on the hospital’s ability to care for all the patients who require medical attention.
Ekeren says current computer projections are indicating a strong possibility of a significant increase in the number of coronavirus patients for the near future.
Ekeren says adequately caring for COVID 19 patients requires more time and attention from the hospital staff.
Ekeren says in order to provide coverage for hospital patients, nurses have been moved from clinics into the acute-care workforce.
