Yankton City Commission Approves Mask Mandate

After what was at times an emotional discussion Wednesday night, the Yankton City Commission voted to approve a public mask mandate in response to the COVID 19 pandemic that will be in effect beginning tomorrow.

Mayor Nathan Johnson says in some way, the coronavirus has impacted everyone in the community.

Johnson says while there has been a mental and emotional toll due to COVID 19, the promise of having vaccines available over the coming months is a reason for hope.

Johnson says this masking ordinance will help to slow the spread of COVID 19.

City Manager Amy Leon says the new ordinance is expected to be legally published tomorrow at which time it goes into effect.
