Early Tuesday afternoon, Governor Kristi Noem will give her annual budget message to South Dakota lawmakers ahead of the 2021 legislative session which convenes on January 12th.
District 18 Representative-Elect Mike Stevens says developing the budget is made more complex by the fact that many of its projections are made a year in advance.
Stevens says he has concerns related to sales tax revenues and the state’s economy in general.
Stevens says making certain that state employees are adequately compensated for their service needs to be a priority.
Stevens says he is also very interested in hearing what Governor Noem has planned for state funding for K-through-12th grade education.
Governor Noems’ budget message is scheduled for 1 PM Tuesday.
