With a new training class getting underway after the New Year, the Yankton Volunteer Fire Department is encouraging anyone interested in joining their ranks to apply to join the department.
Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles says the COVID 19 pandemic has impacted the department’s ability to conduct ongoing training for its members.
Nickles says a number of the department’s firefighters are nearing retirement age.
Nickles says applicants need to be able to pass a physical and a background check.
Nickles says the deadline for applications is Friday.
