A special meeting of the Yankton City Commission has been called for Wednesday afternoon to again discuss the need for a mask mandate in the local community in response to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Mayor Nathan Johnson says since the subject of a mask mandate was discussed about week ago, some members of the city commission have decided to further explore that possibility.
Johnson says there is value in local leaders supporting the efforts to help prevent the spread of COVID 19 that public health officials are recommending.
Johnson says the Yankton City Health Board met Tuesday evening to make a recommendation regarding a possible ordinance to the city commission. A copy of the proposed ordinance is posted on the city of Yankton website.
The special Yankton City Commission meeting is set for 530 PM Wednesday.
