At a work session ahead of their regular meeting Monday night, the Yankton City Commission will discuss the possibility of imposing a mask mandate in response to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Mayor Nathan Johnson says with a resolution already on the books that encourages people to wear facemasks while in public, unless a new resolution contains an ability to legally be enforced, there is little point in approving it.
Johnson says COVID 19 is pushing many healthcare systems across the state to their limits.
Johnson says while he had heard from many people who support a mask mandate, others he has been in contact with do not.
The Yankton City Commission’s work session on a COVID 19 mask mandate begins at 6 PM Monday (today).
