Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer start their seasons today, with a road doubleheader against Sioux Falls Lincoln.
The Gazelles finished 9-4-3 last season, advancing to the Class AA Quarterfinals before being eliminated by eventual state champions Harrisburg 1-0.
The Bucks look to build off of their State Playoff berth from last season. Yankton graduated nine seniors from last year’s 8-6-1 team.
The boys will play first at 5:00 PM, with the girls to follow. Games will be held at Lincoln High School.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis looks to start their season on the right foot today with a triangular in Pierre.
The Gazelles are looking to reload after last year’s senior-heavy squad placed 5th at the State Tournament. Yankton has a pair of returning seniors for 2026, Karalyn Koerner and Sienna Cuka.
Yankton will face Pierre first at 1:00 PM this afternoon, before taking on Rapid City Central at 4:00. Matches are held at Griffin Park in Pierre.
Seventeen members of the South Dakota Coyotes Softball program were named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honorees by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association earlier this week.
Abi Brown, Brooke Carey, Ali Cromer, Madison Evans, Brynnly German, Mya Halverson, Brylee Hempey, Sara Iburg, Autumn Iversen, Kiya Johnson, Camryn Kersten, Aubrey Lensmeyer, Ella McGee, Charlotte Morgan, Charley Nelson, Piper Ruhl and Delaney White were all honored for finishing above a 3.50 GPA on a 4.0 scale during the academic year.
The Coyotes registered a team GPA of 3.64 during the spring semester, the highest benchmark since the turn of the century, improving from its previous best of 3.59 set last year.
The University of South Dakota sports medicine team welcomes Shaye Morten to the football athletic training team as the assistant football athletic trainer.
Morten comes to South Dakota after completing his master’s degree in athletic training from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and his clinical rotations en route to his athletic training degree.
Throughout his clinical rotation, Morten worked at different levels of athletic departments, including a stop with the Coyote football program in the summer of 2025.
Morten’s most recent experience came at Bellevue West High School in Bellevue, Nebraska, where he worked with the school district on updating policies surrounding concussion protocols and educating student-athletes.
The Class A Amateur Baseball State Tournament resumes today in Mitchell, with six teams remaining in contention.
The two remaining undefeated teams, the Harrisburg Woodies and Renner Monarchs, will face off at 1:00 PM at Cadwell Park, with the winner earning a spot in the championship on Sunday.
Two elimination games will also take place at Drake Field, Aberdeen vs Tea at 1:00 PM and Brookings vs Sioux Falls at 3:00 PM.
The Class B Amateur Baseball state quarterfinals officially began last night, with two teams moving on to the semifinals.
The Dell Rapids PBR defeated the Parkston Mudcats 3-1, and the Alexandria Angels topped the Volga Cormorants 5-4 to earn their spots in the next round.
The two games remain in the quarterfinals, scheduled for tonight. The Dell Rapid Mudcats take on the Clark Traders at 5:30 PM, and the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks face the Canova Gang at 7:30 PM.
Both games will be held at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
