The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles were swept by Harrisburg on Friday in their Class AA basketball doubleheader.
The Gazelles fell in the opening game 60-38. September Rauch led the Gazelles with 16 points and 4 assists.
The Bucks fell in the nightcap 54-46. Austin Conway had a team-high 12 points for the Bucks, followed by Jackson Kudera with 11.
The Gazelles are 1-1, and the Bucks are 0-1 after Friday’s games. Both teams return to the court tomorrow night against Sioux Falls Washington. The Bucks play at home with the Gazelles on the road.
The Mount Marty Lancers swept the Waldorf Warriors on Saturday in their men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader.
In the women’s game, Lancer senior Kaela Martinez led with 17 points, eclipsing the 1,000 point mark in her collegiate career, en route to an 89-34 win.
In the men’s game, Mount Marty cruised to a 100-71 victory. Damon Opdahl had a team-high 26 points, with Sutton Arend adding 24.
The Lancers return home on Wednesday for their last doubleheader before Christmas against Doane. The women play first at 6:00 PM, with the men to follow.
Yankton Bucks wrestling placed 29th at this past weekend’s Rapid City Invitational at the Monument in Rapid City.
The Bucks scored 34.5 points as a team, led by a 5th place finish at 215 pounds by senior Edly Amaro.
Next up for the Bucks is an invitational at Sioux Falls Washington High School on Saturday, December 20th.
Yankton Gazelles wrestling took home a 13th-place finish at the Rapid City Invitational over the weekend.
Yankton scored 87 points, as Alexis Brenden and Winry Yaggie posted runner-up finishes at 120 and 145, respectively. Jaclyn Kyte also placed for the Gazelles, taking 6th at 135.
Next up for the Gazelles is an invitational at Sioux Valley on Friday.
Four new records were set for Mount Marty Indoor Track and Field over the weekend at the Concordia Early Bird in Seward, Nebraska.
Logan Ferrari continued to break his own records, setting new school benchmarks in the mile, 4:16.20, and the 3,000-meter, 8:31.50. Ferrari won both events with teammate Joseph Cross in second.
Mya Zohner set the new school record in the women’s pole vault, clearing 11-11 ¾ to win the event. Zelie Sorensen broke Alexis Even’s 60-meter record with a time of 7.77 seconds. Sorensen broke the record by 0.01 seconds.
Also winning events for the Lancers, Jonathan van Lien won the heptathlon, while Zavio Prato, Carl Massa, Samuel Favaretto, and Bastien Furstoss took first in the men’s 1600 relay.
The Lancers are now off until 2026 with their holiday break. They return to action on January 10th with their home opener.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Bowling split their matchup with Sioux Falls Christian on Friday at the Yankton Bowl.
The Gazelles improved to 5-1 with their 46-4 victory. Avery Turner led the Gazelles, rolling a 247 high game and a 683 series.
The Bucks fell in their matchup with the Chargers, 26-24. Christian Weier rolled a 275 high game and a 678 series to lead the Bucks.
The Bucks and Gazelles host Sioux Falls Jefferson on Friday for their next event. Bowling begins at 4:00 PM at the Yankton Bowl.
The South Dakota Coyotes had their season come to an end in the FCS Playoff Quarterfinals on Saturday with a 55-22 loss to Montana.
LJ Phillips Jr. was held to 74 yards rushing and 1 touchdown for the Coyotes, his lowest rushing total since game five against NDSU. Aidan Bouman ends his Coyote career with a 231-yard and 2-touchdown performance.
USD ends their first season under head coach Travis Johansen with a 10-5 record and their third straight FCS Quarterfinal appearance.
South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball got back into the win column on Saturday with a 97-85 victory over Prairie View A&M.
Isaac Bruns led in scoring with 29 points. Cameron Fens posted 22 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double.
The Coyotes are back home again on Wednesday to host Dakota State inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
South Dakota State Men’s Basketball picked up their second straight win on Friday, defeating Dakota Wesleyan 94-62.
Kalen Garry led with 20 points, followed by 16 from Joe Sayler and 15 from Damon Wilkinson. Wilkinson added 11 rebounds for a double-double.
The Jackrabbits play in Sioux Falls tonight, as they take on Wyoming inside the Sanford Pentagon. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
South Dakota State Women’s Basketball picked up their 5th straight win on Sunday, defeating Ball State 78-59.
Brooklyn Meyer starred for the Jackrabbits, posting 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
The Jackrabbits head east for their next game, taking on Duke in Durham, North Carolina, on Thursday.
