Yankton’s Sam Gokie and Beck Ryken are two of fifteen players selected for this year’s Legion Baseball South Dakota Class A All-State team.
Gokie was dominant at the plate and on the mound. As a batter, he recorded a .348 average with 35 RBIs and 32 runs. On the mound, Gokie finished the year with a 1.08 ERA and 39 strikeouts.
Ryken maintained a 7-1 record on the bump for the Legion season, finishing with a 1.02 ERA and 46 strikeouts. Ryken added 20 RBIs and 23 runs scored at the plate.
The 15-member team was chosen by the Class A American Legion coaches. Nolan Krogman of Brookings and Max Speed of Rapid City Post 320 were the top overall vote-getters, named on 14 ballots.
The Mount Marty Lancers have been picked eighth in this year’s GPAC Volleyball Preseason Poll.
The Lancers are coming off a GPAC Tournament appearance in 2025, finishing the year 12-16 overall, 5-11 in GPAC play. The Lancers open their 2026 campaign on Friday, competing in the Tiger Kickoff Invitational in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
The Northwestern Red Raiders took the top spot in this year’s poll, earning ten of twelve first-place votes. Concordia, a national semifinalist in 2025, earned the remaining two first-place votes.

The Wynot Expos had their season come to an end last night, falling to Alexandria 11-1 in the second round of the Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament.
The Expos were held to four hits as a team. One each from Landon Wieseler, Jesse Lundal, Jackson Sudbeck, and Nate Wieseler. Alexandria were led by Pierce Smith, who finished the night 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Wynot finished their season with a 12-10 overall record, finishing the season 9-2 over their last 11 games.
Rounding out yesterday’s games in the Class B Tournament, the Volga Commorants eliminated the Lennox Bandits 7-2.
The Tabor Bluebirds look to advance to the Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament Quarterfinals tonight, as they take on the Clark Traders in Mitchell.
The Bluebirds are the lone South Central League team remaining in this year’s tournament. They are coming off a 6-2 win over Mount Vernon in round one.
First pitch between the Bluebirds and Traders from Cadwell Park in Mitchell is scheduled for 5:30 PM this evening.
Yankton High School is hosting a Fall Sports Kickoff this Thursday, August 13th, at the YHS Commons.
Food will be served at 6:00 PM, with coaches set to speak between 6:30 and 6:45.
Representatives from all fall athletics are scheduled to speak. The event is free and open to the public.
