The Yankton Lakers were eliminated from the Class A Amateur Baseball State Tournament on Saturday, falling to the Tea Steam 6-2.

Yankton tallied seven hits as a team, led by two each from Joe Gokie and Mitch Gullickson. Cade Sudbeck was credited with the loss on the mound.

Yankton ends their season with an 18-5 record. The Lakers finished as the regular season champions in the South Central League, with a 13-1 league record.

The Tabor Bluebirds and the Wynot Expos both advanced to the round of sixteen for the Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament.

Wynot started their tournament with a 6-3 win over Lake Norden last Thursday, while Tabor earned their first victory on Friday, 6-2 over Mount Vernon.

Wynot is back in action today, taking on Alexandria at 5:30 PM, while Tabor returns to the diamond tomorrow against Clark at 5:30. Both games will be held at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

Yankton native Miles Krajewski had his Peru Para Badminton International cut short this weekend, as he was forced to retire from his semifinal match against Man Kai Chu in the opening set.

Leading up to the semifinal, Krajewski had not dropped a set, with an average scoreline of 21-7 per set through three matches.

After the forfeit, Chu would go on to face Vitor Tavares of Brazil in the championship match. Tavares won the title 21-12, 21-12.

Yankton High School is hosting a Fall Sports Kickoff this Thursday, August 13th, at the YHS Commons.

Food will be served at 6:00 PM, with coaches set to speak between 6:30 and 6:45. Representatives from all fall athletics are scheduled to speak. The event is free and open to the public.
