Yankton United Girls’ Soccer took home a pair of division championships at this past weekend’s Norfolk Express Soccer Tournament in Norfolk, Nebraska.
In the U18/19 division, Yankton went 2-0-1 during pool play to earn a spot in the championship match. They would avenge their draw with CSC – Arroyo in the finals, winning 2-1, with Josslyn Elwood scoring both goals.
Yankton was dominant in the U13/14 division, not allowing a single goal to their opponents, and outscoring the rest of their group 15-0 in pool play.
Four boys’ teams competed as well for Yankton United. U18 went 0-3, U13 finished 0-2-1, U10 Red finished 0-3-1, and U10 White finished 0-4.
Yankton Post 12 capped off the 2026 Dakota Classic Legion Baseball Tournament with a 10-8 win in extra innings over Kindred (ND) on Saturday.
Beck Ryken drove in three runs on two hits for Post 12. Boston Frick picked up the win on the mound, striking out four batters over 3 2/3rds innings of relief.
Yankton finished the Dakota Classic 2-2 overall. They will return home tomorrow to host a four-team event between themselves, Dakota Valley, Sioux Falls West, and Sioux Falls East.
Yankton plays SF East at 11:00 AM and SF West at 6:30 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins 30 minutes before each game. Yankton and Dakota Valley will not play each other during the event.
The Yankton Lakers remained undefeated in South Central League play last night with a 13-1 win over the Irene Cardinals.
Rex Ryken led Yankton at the plate, driving in a pair of runs on as many hits. Evan Steiner picked up the win on the mound, striking out five batters in five innings.
Irene recorded ten hits as a team in the loss, two each from Tucker Martz, Cole Edberg, and Elliott Jorgenson.
Yankton will return to league play on Sunday when they host Menno, while Irene will travel to Freeman for their next game on Thursday.
The Crofton Bluejay took a 6-4 home victory over the Freeman Black Sox last night in South Central League Amateur Baseball action.
Colton Schieffer was the catalyst for the Crofton offense, driving in three runs on a pair of hits. Zach Hegge slammed the door on Freeman, as the Bluejays reliever struck out nine batters over three innings for the win on the mound.
Evan Scharberg and Bailey Sage both hit home runs in the loss for Freeman, with Sage finishing the day 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Crofton is off until next Sunday when they travel to Wynot, while Freeman returns to the diamond on Thursday to host Irene.
Menno and Lesterville combined for 22 runs last night, as the Mad Frogs handed the Broncs their second South Central League loss of the season, 13-9.
Brayden Sattler drove in four runs on two hits, including a home run, while Kyle Munkvold tallied three RBIs on two hits, adding a home run of his own for Menno.
Owen Wishon and Michael Drotzmann combined for four of Lesterville’s six hits in the loss, both finishing 2-for-5 at the plate.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday. Menno hosts Wynot while Lesterville is on the road against Tabor.
