Yankton Post 12 returns from an extended break this afternoon, as they are scheduled to take on Huron Post 7 in a legion baseball doubleheader.
Entering today’s games, Yankton is ranked second in the legion standings, with a 16-6 overall record, and an 11-4 record in league play.
Game one is scheduled for 5:00 PM this evening in Huron, with game two to follow.
The Tabor Bluebirds shut out the Freeman Black Sox last night in South Central League action, thanks in to a dominant performance from Riley Rothschadl.
Rothschadl recorded 17 strikeouts over 7 innings of work on the mound, allowing only one hit, while issuing no walks. Rothschadl also contributed at the plate, scoring a pair of runs and driving in two more.
The Black Sox were held to just a pair of hits as a team, both courtesy of third baseman Trey Ortman.
Tabor improves to 7-4 on the year to maintain their grasp on second in the South Central League. Freeman falls to 5th with the loss, as they now sit at 5-6 in league play.
The Crofton Bluejays used a 6-run top of the 11th inning to defeat the Irene Cardinals last night, 11-7 in South Central League play.
Tyler Koch led the Crofton offense, tallying two runs on two hits with three RBIs and a home run. Seth Wiebelhaus was credited with the win on the mound, striking out two batters over two and two-thirds innings of relief.
Three different Cardinals recorded three or more hits in the loss. Noah Hansen led with four, while Dustin Livingston and Cole Edberg had three each.
Crofton improves to 5-7 in league play with the win, while Irene remains winless in the SCL at 0-11.
The Wynot Expos topped the Lesterville Broncs in a shootout last night, winning 17-13 in South Central League action.
Lee Heimes and Devin Lammers led the Expos at the plate, as the duo combined for six hits, four runs, and five RBIs.
Brady Bierma posted an impressive stat line for Lesterville despite the loss, ending the night 4-for-5 with three runs and an RBI.
Wynot improves to 5-6 with the win, while Lesterville falls to 6-6, tied for 3rd in the league standings.
With four official game days remaining in the South Central League Amateur Baseball season, 2nd through 7th in the league standings are separated by less than three games.
Yankton is uncatchable at the top of the league at a perfect 12-0. Tabor follows at 7-4, with Lesterville and Menno tied for 3rd at 6-6. Freeman and Wynot follow closely at 5-6, with Crofton 7th at 5-7.
Every team will be in action this coming Thursday, Wynot will host Crofton, Irene hosts Menno, Lesterville travels to Freeman, and Yankton plays Tabor at Riverside Field. All games are scheduled for a 7:30 PM first pitch.
