Yankton Post 12 split their legion baseball doubleheader last night against Rapid City Post 22 in Rapid City.
Game one saw Yankton claim a hard-fought 1-0 win in 13 innings. Easton Feser scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly from Beck Ryken. Chase Cooley and Boston Frick combined for the shutout, allowing only six total hits.
Game two ended in a 5-4 loss for Post 12. Simon Kampshoff led the team in hits, finishing the game 2-for-4. Sam Gokie was handed his first loss of the season, throwing six innings, tallying seven strikeouts, and allowing five runs, with only one earned.
Post 12 wraps up their trip west with a doubleheader today against Spearfish. Game one is scheduled for 11:00 AM Mountain.
The Yankton Lakers cruised to a dominant win in South Central League play last night, defeating the Wynot Expos 18-1.
Drew Ryken powered the Yankton bats, finishing the game 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs, and five runs scored. Mark Kathol threw all six innings, recording five strikeouts for the win on the mound.
Wynot was held to three hits as a team, one each from Jackson Sudbeck, Jesse Lundahl, and Lee Heimes.
Yankton and Wynot both return to league play on Sunday. Yankton will host Lesterville, while Wynot will host Freeman.
The Menno Mad Frogs defeated the Tabor Bluebirds last night in South Central League play, winning 7-4 in ten innings.
Menno pushed three runs across home plate in the top of the 10th to take the win. Dylan Lehr led the Mad Frogs with three hits, a home run, and three runs scored. Macon Oplinger threw the complete game for the win on the mound.
Easton Mudder and Riley Rothschadl combined for five hits for the Bluebirds, with Rothschadl adding a home run in the loss.
Menno will return to SCL play on Sunday, taking on the Crofton Blue Jays in Crofton, while Tabor is off until their matchup with Lesterville on July 2nd.
The Lesterville Broncs moved into sole possession of 2nd place in the South Central League last night, improving to 6-3 with a 12-2 win over Irene.
Brady Bierema recorded a pair of hits for the Broncs while throwing nine strikeouts over five innings for the win on the mound.
Irene was led by Bryant Knodel at the plate, tallying two hits. Dustin Livingston was handed the loss, striking out four batters.
Lesterville travels to Yankton for their next game on Sunday. Irene’s next league game is scheduled for July 5th against Crofton.
Yankton golfers Gus Sprakel and Abe Hanson tied for 6th yesterday at the South Dakota Golf Association’s Southeast Junior Tour event at Fox Run Golf Course.
Sprakel and Hanson both shot a 76 on the day. Parkston’s Landon Weber would claim the top spot in the 16-18 boys’ division, shooting a 1-under 71.
In the girls’ 16-18 division, Lyric Riepma of Sioux Falls took 1st with an 82, finishing two strokes clear of Ava Crooks from Astoria.
Three other Yankton athletes competed in the boys’ 16-18 division, Elijah Larson placed 13th (78), Max Dobler placed 14th (79), and Easton Schelhaas placed 21st (82).
The University of South Dakota and Midco Sports announced yesterday an extension of their broadcast and sponsorship agreements, continuing a long-running partnership between the two entities.
Midco, a partner of Coyote Athletics since 2012, will continue to serve as a broadcast partner for the production and distribution of live athletic events.
In addition to game broadcasts, the partnership strengthens Midco’s role as the exclusive telecommunications sponsor of USD Athletics.
