A Yankton County inmate was apprehended yesterday in Nebraska after fleeing across the river in a boat.
Wednesday at 2:30, Yankton County inmate Ruperto Aguirre was being discharged from Avera Sacred Heart Hospital when he fled from authorities.
The Yankton County Sheriff’s office says it’s believed that Aguirre stole a boat along the Missouri River and traveled to the Nebraska shoreline where he was apprehended a short time later at by South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks officers.
The suspect was free for less than an hour, and the sheriff’s office says there was no danger to the public. Aguirre was originally being held on drug charges.
