Yankton Post 12 heads west this week, playing five games over three days in Rapid City and Spearfish.
Yankton’s first three games will be in Rapid City, taking on Post 320 in a single game on Wednesday, before their doubleheader with Post 22 on Thursday.
Yankton ends their expedition on Friday morning with a doubleheader against Spearfish, beginning at 11:00 AM Mountain.
Entering this stretch of games, Yankton is ranked 2nd in the class, with Post 22 2nd, Post 320 5th, and Spearfish 12th.
Three Yankton athletes and a pair of relay teams earned All-State Honors at the State Meet last month, and one area coach was honored, as the South Dakota Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association released their postseason awards.
Quinn Brinkman earned a pair of All-State honors with her high finishes in the girls’ triple jump and high jump. Miles Drotzmann (boys’ 110-meter hurdles) and Williams Rounds (boys’ pole vault) also picked up All-State nods with top-8 finishes.
Two relay teams were also honored for Yankton. The girls’ 400-meter relay team of Rylie Moser, Charleigh Madsen, Raina Gutierrez, and Burkley Olson, and the boys’ 1600-meter relay team of Tegan LaCroix, Abe O’Brien, Owen Eidsness, and Jack Brandt.
Also honored in the SDCCTFCA Post-Season awards was Vermillion coach Lenni Billberg, who won Area 2 Class A Head Coach of the Year.
Following their narrow 10-9 win over Menno on Sunday, the Yankton Lakers still sit undefeated atop the South Central Amateur Baseball League.
Yankton is 9-0 in league play, 3.5 games ahead of Lesterville and Tabor at 5-3. Freeman, 4-4, is 4th, with Menno 5th, Wynot 6th, Crofton 7th, and Irene 8th.
The South Central League returns to play tomorrow for a rare Wednesday night matchup between Yankton and Crofton in Yankton. First pitch from Riverside Field is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
Vermillion’s Rylan Moran is currently 3rd in the South Dakota Golf Association’s Junior 16-18 Championships, at Red Rock in Rapid City.
Moran is just one shot back of the top spot after an even par on day one, as Sioux Falls’ Bryce Thompson and Carter Peterson are tied at a 1-under 71.
Jack Johnson (79) and Jeran Carr (83), also of Vermillion, are also competing in the event. The tournament continues today and runs through tomorrow in Rapid City.
