Yankton Post 12 swept Brookings Post 74 last night in their legion baseball doubleheader, earning a shutout in both games.
Yankton claimed game one 3-0. Easton Feser launched his first home run of the season, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs. Kaden Hunhoff and Boston Frick combined to allow just three hits in the win.
Sam Gokie dominated game two, pitching a complete game one-hitter with nine strikeouts, as Yankton took a 4-0 win.
Post 12 is off until June 24th, when they open a slate of five games over three days, beginning with a matchup against Rapid City Post 320.
The 34th Yankton Girls’ Softball Association Father’s Day Tournament begins today in Yankton, with 58 teams set to compete across 5 divisions.
Yankton will have ten teams compete in the tournament. Two in the U10 division, four in the U12 division, two in the U14 division, and one each in the U16 division and the U18 division.
Games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
The Nike Outdoor Track and Field Nationals are currently underway in Eugene, Oregon, and Yankton High School athlete Quinn Brinkman is set to compete in three events, beginning tomorrow.
Brinkman will compete in the Championship division in the girls’ high jump, beginning at 10:00 AM Saturday, and the Emerging Elite division of the girls’ triple jump Saturday afternoon.
Brinkman’s final competition will be the girls’ long jump in the Emerging Elite Division, beginning at 9:00 AM Sunday.
The Freeman Blacksox posted 18 runs last night, in an impressive 18-8 win over Irene in South Central League play.
Rocky Amman led Freeman at the plate, finishing with three hits, including a triple, and four RBIs.Trey Ortman posted a game-high six RBIs on two hits.
Cole Edberg was nearly perfect at the plate for Irene, ending the night 3-for-4 with a double in the loss.
Next up for both teams is a set of non-league games. Irene travels to Elk Point on Saturday, while Freeman hosts the Parkston Mudcats on Sunday.
The Tabor Bluebirds started this year’s Czech Days festivities with a bang, defeating Lesterville 10-3 in South Central League action.
Joey Slama, Jace Toupal, and Hunter Hallock all recorded three hits for the Bluebirds, while Chase Kortan drove in five runs on two hits.
Owen Wishon and Tyler Edler carried the spark for the Lesterville offense, combining for four of their hits.
Tabor is off until their June 25th matchup with Menno, while Lesterville will host the Parkston Rays on Tuesday in a non-league game.
The Wynot Expos put five runs on the board in the first inning last night, en route to a 17-7 win over Menno in South Central League play.
Jalen Wieseler was the catalyst for Wynot, finishing 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Jesse Lundal struck out eleven batters to earn the win on the mound.
Menno was led by Brayden Sattler, who ended the night 3-for-4 at the plate. Kyle Munkvold added two hits, including a home run, and scored three runs in the loss.
Both teams return to league play on Sunday. Wynot will host Crofton while Menno travels to Yankton.
