Yankton Post 12 opens the 2026 Dakota Classic Legion Baseball Tournament tomorrow afternoon in Sioux Falls.
Yankton Post 12 are one of forty-six teams in this year’s tournament. They will compete in the Sanford Field #4 Pool against Pierre Post 8, Ralston (NE), Columbus (NE), and Kindred (ND).
Yankton enters the Dakota Classic with a 7-2 record. Post 12 advanced to the semifinals of last weekend’s Lewis & Clark Classic, and most recently swept Aberdeen in a doubleheader on Tuesday, 9-0, 9-4.
Yankton’s first game tomorrow will be at 2:30 PM against Pierre, immediately followed by a matchup with Ralston. All pool games will be held at the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls.
Yankton High School athlete Quinn Brinkman is attempting to raise $2,500 to compete at the Nike Outdoor Track and Field Nationals, June 18th through 21st in Eugene, Oregon.
Brinkman just finished an impressive junior season at YHS, placing 2nd in the high jump, 3rd in the triple jump, and 12th in the long jump at the Class AA State Track and Field Championships.

USD head football coach Matt Vitzthum announced on Wednesday the hiring of Kyle Keeton as the program’s next Director of Player Personnel and NFL Liaison heading into the 2026 football season.
Keeton has spent the last five seasons in different capacities and roles at Northern Illinois University, having held titles of Operations and Recruiting Assistant and Assistant Director of Football Operations – Recruiting.
Keeton earned his degree in mathematical statistics from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater in 2021. He earned his graduate degree in sport management from Northern Illinois in 2023.
The South Central Amateur Baseball League returns to action tonight, with all eight teams scheduled to be in action.
The league-leading Yankton Lakers (6-0) host the #3-ranked Freeman Blacksox tonight. Both teams are coming off impressive wins in their last league matchups. Yankton topped Crofton 19-7, and Freeman defeated Menno 17-5.
Tabor and Wynot will square off in Tabor. A win for Wynot would move them above Tabor in the standings, while the 4th-place Bluebirds could take a 1.5-game lead over the Expos.
#2 Lesterville hosts #7 Crofton in a rematch from May 24th. Lesteville won the first meeting between the squads 15-4 in Crofton.
Menno will host Irene in the final game of the day. Menno could move to .500 on the season with a win, while Irene is looking for their first league victory of 2026.
All games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM this evening.
