The Class AA State Track and Field Championships began Thursday morning in Sioux Falls, with multiple Yankton athletes earning top-8 finishes.
- Quinn Brinkman placed 3rd in the girls’ triple jump at 37-00.05 (11.29 meters).
- William Rounds placed 4th in the boys’ pole vault, clearing 14-00 (4.26 meters).
- Miles Drotzmann qualified for the finals of the boys’ 110-meter hurdles, finishing 4th in the prelims with a time of 14.96 seconds.
- Juliet Remington placed 12th in the girls’ triple jump at 34-08.50 (10.57 meters).
- Maddie Tereshinski placed 24th in the girls’ shot put, throwing 32-07.
- The girls’ 400-meter relay team of Rylie Moser, Charleigh Madsen, Raina Gutierrez, and Burkley Olson placed 5th in the prelims, qualifying for the championship race with a time of 49.52 seconds.
- The boys’ 3200-meter relay team of Luke Feimer, Owen Eidsness, Bryton Olson, and Isaac Paulson placed 9th with a time of 8:23.51.
- The girls’ 3200-meter relay team of Rilyn Jackson, Avery Wuestewald, Abby Johanneson, and Kahlen Peterson placed 10th with a time of 10:03.13.
- The boys’ 1600 sprint medley team of Jack Brandt, Abe O’Brien, Tegan LaCroix, and Owen Eidsness placed 11th with a time of 3:38.17.
- The girls’ 1600 sprint medley team of Charleigh Madsen, Auve Seiler, Ava Hinnerichs, and Kahlen Peterson placed 13th with a time of 4:29.14.
Events are scheduled to resume today at 9:00 AM at Howard Wood Field.
Yankton Post 12 begins their legion baseball season on Sunday with a road matchup against Huron Post 7.
First pitch of game one from Huron on Sunday is scheduled for 11:00 AM, with game two to follow.
The Class AA Girls Golf State Tournament begins on Monday at Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown.
Competing for the Yankton Gazelles in the tournament will be Bailey Anderson, Harper Anderson, Ellia Homstad, Josslyn Elwood, Sabrina Krajewski, and Olivia Woods.
Tee time is scheduled for 8:00 AM on Monday.
South Central League Amateur Baseball Results (5/28/26):
- Wynot defeated Menno 15-5.
- Lesterville defeated Freeman 14-8.
- Yankton defeated Tabor 11-1.
Three members of the University of South Dakota Track and Field team earned their spots in the NCAA Championships yesterday at the NCAA West First Round.
Caelan Harland qualified in the men’s pole vault, clearing 17-11.25 (5.47 meters) to earn his spot.
Anna Willis and Marleen Mulla punched their tickets to nationals in the women’s pole vault, both clearing 14-6.25 (4.43 meters).
Delaney Smith also competed for the Coyotes on Thursday, placing 20th in the women’s hammer throw with a toss of 196-10 (60 meters).
Two more Coyotes will be in action today, Landon Olson in the men’s high jump and Jaden Damiano in the men’s 110-meter hurdles.
The University of South Dakota has announced the scheduled kickoff times for this fall’s home football games at the DakotaDome.
USD’s home slate begins on August 29th, as they host Central Connecticut State for the first time ever at 1:00 PM.
The Coyotes also recently announced a matchup with FBS opponent Boise State in Boise, Idaho, on September 19th. The full home schedule for USD is available below.
