Yankton Bucks Tennis took home 5th place last week at the Class AA Tennis State Tournament, scoring 222.5 points as a team.
O’Gorman would score 484, finishing two points clear of Harrisburg for the team championship.
Final results for Yankton:
- Harrison Krajewski: Finished 2-2 at flight one singles, taking home 6th place
- Luke Moeller: Consolation champion at flight two singles. Ran the table after an opening round loss.
- Chris Rockne: 6th place at flight three singles. Finished the tournament 2-2
- Ethan Marsh: 6th place at flight four singles with a 2-2 record
- Jack Pedersen: fell in the 5th-place semifinals at flight five singles. 1-2 record.
- Zane Becker: 5th-place finish at flight six as a freshman. 3-1 record for the tournament.
- Krajewski/Moeller: 6th place finish at flight one doubles
- Rockne/Marsh: 4th place finish at flight two doubles
- Pedersen/Becker: 3rd place finish at flight three doubles
Yankton Baseball wrapped up their season over the weekend with multiple major milestones at the Class A State Tournament.
Before their first game, Samuel Gokie made history, as he became the first athlete to win Class A Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons.
Nearly two hours after being honored, Gokie would walk off the Bucks’ 2-1 Quarterfinal victory over Rapid City Stevens with a Sac Fly.
The win advanced the Bucks to their first State Semifinal appearance in over a decade. Despite a few late runs, Yankton’s season would come to an end in the semifinals with a 6-2 loss to Watertown.
Yankton ended the High School Baseball season with a 21-5 overall record. Yankton now shifts to the legion season, with Post 12 opening play on Sunday, on the road against Huron.
The Yankton Gazelles travel to Sioux Falls today to take on O’Gorman in the Class AA Softball SoDak 16.
The Gazelles captured the #10 seed in the SoDak, finishing the regular season with a 9-11 record. O’Gorman ended the year 7th at 12-7.
The two teams met once earlier this season, with O’Gorman claiming a 15-9 win over the Gazelles on April 23rd.
First pitch from Sherman Park is scheduled for 5:00 PM this evening in Sioux Falls. The winner will advance to the Class AA State Tournament.
Three South Central Amateur Baseball League games took place on Sunday, with one waiting until Monday to find a conclusion.
The game between Freeman and Irene was stopped on Sunday due to rain and resumed yesterday. Riley and Easton Tschetter led the Black Sox, both finishing 3 for 4 at the plate, as Freeman captured a 12-0 win.
Tabor defeated Wynot 8-3 off the back of a 4-for-4 performance and a pair of home runs from Riley Rothschadl.
Lesterville rolled to a win over Crofton 15-4. Michael Drotzmann finished the game with a pair of hits, a home run, and 4 RBIs in the win.
The South Central League returns to action on Thursday, as Tabor will host Yankton, Wynot will host Menno, and Freeman travels to Lesterville.
