Four Yankton Bucks have earned All-State recognition for Class A Baseball, Beck Ryken and Sam Gokie on the First Team, and Easton Feser and Boston Frick on the Second Team.
Selected as a P/3B, Gokie was dominant in all phases of the game. At the plate, he holds a .478 batting average with an OPS of 1.214 and 22 runs scored. On the mound, Gokie threw 36 innings, striking out 40 batters, while issuing only two walks and allowing 3 runs.
Earning his First Team spot as a pitcher, Ryken threw 35.1 innings over 8 games, maintaining a 0.792 ERA, allowing only 4 earned runs all year. Ryken also tallied 31 strikeouts and held a WHIP of 1.189.
Feser was a steady presence at first base while serving as the Bucks’ main power threat in the regular season, leading the team in slugging percentage (.667), extra base hits (11), home runs (2), and RBIs (27).
Frick was a versatile piece in the pitching room for Yankton, making a team-high 10 appearances, including 5 starts. He ended the regular season with a 1.29 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and held opposing batters to a .224 average.
Gokie, Ryken, Feser, and Frick would also earn All-Region recognition, alongside Carter Boomsma. Boomsma leads the Bucks in steals with 16 on the year, along with 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
Yankton enters the state tournament as the #4 seed. They will face #5 Rapid City Stevens on Friday at 2:30 PM in round one.
Former Yankton Buck Sheldon Gant has been announced as a 2026 inductee into the SDHSBA Hall of Fame.
Gant earned three all-state selections during his high school career. In 2015, he was named All-State after hitting .386.
Gant joins previous Yankton inductees Kieren Luellman (2025), Travis Devine (2023), Mason Vig (2021), Drew Heithoff (2020), and Layne Somsen (2020).
Yankton Gazelles Softball celebrated senior night last night with a 5-2 win over the Watertown Arrows.
Joecelyn Behrns recorded two hits and scored two runs for the Gazelles, with Brenna Elwood earning the win in the circle.
Yankton (8-10) returns to action today, hosting Harrisburg at 1:00 PM.
The 2026 Class AA Boys Tennis State Tournament begins on Thursday, with this year’s event being held in Rapid City.
Entering this year’s tournament, all Yankton athletes are seeded mid-pack of their respective flights, ranging from 5th to 8th out of 14.
- Harrison Krajewski (18-6) is the 6th seed at flight one singles.
- Luke Moeller (11-9) is the 8th seed at flight two singles.
- Chris Rockne (14-10) is the 7th seed at flight three singles.
- Ethan Marsh (12-8) is the 6th seed at flight four singles.
- Jack Pedersen (14-8) is the 7th seed at flight five singles.
- Zane Becker (15-7) is the 6th seed at flight six singles.
- Krajewski and Moeller (10-7) are the 7th seed at flight one doubles.
- Marsh and Rockne (14-6) are the 5th seed at flight two doubles.
- Pedersen and Becker (8-5) are the 5th seed at flight three doubles.
Matches are scheduled to be held between two locations, Sioux Park and Parkview, in Rapid City. Thursday’s matches begin at 8:00 AM.
Following their best season in program history at the Division I level, University of South Dakota Head Softball Coach Robert Wagner announced his resignation yesterday afternoon.
Wagner led the Coyotes to a Summit League Tournament Championship, their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, and their first NCAA Tournament win.
Wagner took over as the head coach in 2016 and amassed a 224-297-1 record over his ten seasons at the helm.
Following the announcement, USD has begun a “nationwide search” for their next head coach.
Yankton Track and Field will travel to Sioux Falls tomorrow for a last chance meet at Howard Wood Field. Events begin with the javelin at 2:30 PM.
Yankton Gazelles Golf will compete in Brookings tomorrow morning at Brookings Country Club. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday.
