Yankton athletes impressed at their home First Dakota Relays on Thursday, claiming four event victories and several top-3 finishes.
For the Bucks, Jake Bivens took home the top spot in the high jump, clearing six feet even, and William Rounds won the pole vault at 13-06.
The two victories for the Gazelles also came in field events. Burkely Olson won the long jump at just under 18 feet, and Maddie Tereshinski won the shot put with a toss of 36-10.
Several Bucks and Gazelles also claimed top-3 finishes in their respective events, heading into next week’s ESD Conference Meet in Aberdeen:
- Jack Brandt was 2nd in the boys’ 100, 200, and 400-meter races.
- Miles Drotzmann took 2nd in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles.
- Bryton Olson was 3rd in the boys’ 3200.
- Jake Bivens added to his win in the long jump with a 3rd place finish in the triple jump.
- Jack Brandt, Abe O’Brien, Owen Eidsness, and Joaquin Pulido took 3rd in the boys’ 1600 relay.
- Bryton Olson, Luke Feimer, Isaac Paulson, and Trysten Duscher placed 3rd in the boys’ 3200 relay.
- Rylie Moser was 3rd in the girls’ 400.
- Nora Youmans was 3rd in the girls’ 800.
- Abby Johanneson took 2nd in the girls’ 3200, with Delaney Youmans in 3rd.
- Juliet Remington took 2nd in the girls’ triple jump.
- Rylie Moser, Reina Gutierrez, Ava Hinnerichs, and Burkley Olson took 2nd in the girls’ 800 relay.
- Rilyn Jackson, Abby Johanneson, Kahlen Peterson, and Avery Wuestewald placed 2nd in the girls’ 3200 relay.
The Yankton Gazelles are set to host a girls’ golf invitational today at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.
Sixteen total teams, including the Gazelles, are currently scheduled to compete in the event. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
Yankton Gazelles Softball travels to Mitchell this afternoon for a neutral site matchup with Rapid City Stevens.
The Gazelles are on a roll lately, having won 3 of their last 4 games after a 2-7 start to the season.
The Raiders enter today’s matchup as one of two remaining undefeated teams in Class AA at 5-0.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM at Cadwell Park, Field F, in Mitchell.
Yankton Bucks Baseball hosts Tea Area this afternoon in the penultimate doubleheader of their regular season.
Yankton is currently 3rd in Class A with a 14-4 record. Tea Area currently ranks 18th in the class at 4-18.
First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 4:15 with Brayden Butler and Josh Boelter.
Mount Marty Track and Field will travel to Seward, Nebraska, today for the Concordia University Twilight Meet.
Today’s meet will serve as one of the final chances for athletes to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Championships, May 20th through 22nd.
Today’s events are scheduled to begin at noon. The Lancers will also compete on Saturday in Kearney, Nebraska, at the UNK Twilight.
Mount Marty Track Athlete Logan Ferrari has been selected by the GPAC as the top men’s track performer of last week’s conference championships.
Ferrari set a new conference record in the men’s 10,000-meter run, winning in the event in 30:35.14.
Ferrari’s performance helped lead the Lancers to a fourth-place finish in the men’s team standings, tying for their top finish in school history, and setting a new record for points scored during the meet with 106.
