Mount Marty University has made the decision to discontinue their men’s and women’s tennis programs at the end of the 2025-26 academic year.
The decision comes after a lengthy evaluation of the university’s long-term strategic priorities.
All members of both programs will have their scholarships honored by Mount Marty University during their time on campus.
Mount Marty’s Jalen Owens and Tyler Vance have been selected as second-team GPAC All-Conference honorees for baseball.
Owens set a new single-season steals record for the Lancers this season, besting his own mark with 47 stolen bases. Owens also drove in 23 RBIs and led the Lancers in triples with 4.
Vance hit .367 on the year, tallying 7 home runs, 25 extra-base hits, and 56 RBIs. Defensively, Vance maintained a .967 fielding percentage.
Three Lancers also earned Honorable Mentions from the GPAC: Daniel Vonnegut, Cooper Milnarik, and Aspen Dahl.
Mount Marty finished the season 21-29 overall, 10-18 in the GPAC, tying for 6th in the season standings.
Ellia Homstad shot a 4-over 75 to take the top spot in yesterday’s girls’ golf quadrangular at Bakker Crossing Golf Course.
Homstad finished three shots clear of second place. Yankton would finish as runners-up in the team competition to Mitchell with a 338.
Also, for the Gazelles, Sabrina Krajewski and Olivia Woods would tie for 10th at 87. Harper Anderson shot 89, Bailey Anderson shot 90, Joslyn Elswood shot 99, Liv Thunker shot 100, and Everly Bruening shot 104.
Yankton returns home on Friday to host a varsity invitational at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
Yankton Bucks Tennis fell in both ends of their triangular yesterday afternoon against Sioux Falls Christian and Sioux Falls Lincoln.
The Bucks were swept 9-0 by both the Crusaders and the Patriots, ending their regular season with an 18-5 dual record.
Next up for the Bucks are the ESD Conference Championships. Yankton will host the competition on May 11th and 12th.
Yankton Track and Field will host the First Dakota Relays tomorrow afternoon at Williams Field in Yankton.
The entry list for the event contains athletes from fifteen different schools from across South Dakota.
Field events are scheduled to begin at noon, with running events set to begin at 1:30 PM.
