District 18 Senate candidates Lauren Nelson and Jean Hunhoff and House candidates Mike Stevens, John Marquardt, and Michael Nutley participated in a candidate forum Thursday.
The candidates were asked about how unfunded mandates have impacted South Dakota counties.
Marquardt, who serves as the Yankton County Commission Chair, says about 80% of the county’s finances are spent on unfunded mandates.
Senator Nelson says it will take years to get those mandates undone.
The Republican primary is June 2nd along with the Yankton County Commission election.
