South Dakota Finance and Management Commissioner Jim Terwilliger says January sales tax collections, which include Christmas spending, were up 10.9 percent over last year.
After the unexpected growth report, Gov. Larry Rhoden says he is open to possibly revising his proposed zero-percent increase in funding for schools, healthcare providers and state employees.
When Rhoden released his budget proposal in December, he said it was based on sales tax growth estimates of four-point-four percent.
