YANKTON, SD (Dec. 29, 2025) – Avera Sacred Heart Hospital has announced Karley Klug as the recipient of its quarterly DAISY Award. The DAISY Award is a national and international recognition program that honors nurses for providing exceptional, compassionate care to patients and their families.
Klug is an infusion nurse at the Avera Oncology and Hematology Clinic in Yankton. She began working for Avera in 2020 as a case manager, providing home health and hospice care throughout the Yankton area. In late 2023, she transitioned into her current role, where she works closely with patients receiving cancer treatments.
In a press release, Avera Sacred Heart Hospital said Klug was nominated for the award by a patient she has cared for during chemotherapy treatments over the past year and a half. The patient highlighted Klug’s ability to connect on a personal level, offering comfort, support, and reassurance during difficult appointments.
Hospital representatives say the DAISY Award is designed to recognize nurses who demonstrate not only strong clinical skills, but also empathy, compassion, and presence during some of the most challenging moments in a patient’s life. Award recipients are selected quarterly by a committee made up of community members and Avera employees.
Anyone who has had a positive nursing care experience can nominate a deserving nurse for a DAISY award by filling out the online form at DAISYnomination.org/4381.
