Yankton County is considering adding a juvenile detention facility to the Yankton County Safety Center.
The Yankton County Commission approved a study to look into the addition at the beginning of 2025.
Yankton County Sheriff, Preston Crissey, spoke in favor of the addition at the county commission meeting Tuesday night, citing the increasing financial burden of sending juveniles to Minnehaha County.
Al Povondra, with Carlton West Povondra Architects, also spoke at the meeting and discussed the design of the 6,000 square foot eight-bed facility.
The commission agreed to table the conversation and pick things back up in the new year.
