Yankton Bucks football took the top spot in this week’s Class 11-AA Football media poll, earning 23 of 25 first-place votes.
The Bucks are 2-0 on the season, coming off an impressive 52-26 win over the defending 11AA State Champions, Watertown, on Friday.
Also representing the southeast corner of the state, the Avon Pirates ranked 2nd in Class 9B, earning six first-place votes.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer hosts Brandon Valley tonight in a boys and girls doubleheader at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Both Yankton squads are unbeaten in the last two weeks, with the Bucks winning all three of their matches, while the Gazelles have a win and two draws.
The Bucks play first at 5:00 PM with the Gazelles to follow. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 4:00. Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer travels to Storm Lake, Iowa, tomorrow for a doubleheader against Buena Vista.
The women are scheduled to open the doubleheader at 5:00 PM with the men to follow at 7:30.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball fell to the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors last night, three sets to one inside the Summit Activities Center.
The Gazelles took set three of the contest 25-13, with the Warriors winning the remaining sets 25-17, 26-24, and 25-16.
The Gazelles have a quick turnaround, as they host Sioux Falls Roosevelt tonight at Yankton High School. First serve is scheduled for 6:30.
Mount Marty Volleyball continues GPAC play tomorrow night, as they take on the Midland Warriors in Fremont, Nebraska.
The Lancers are 6-4 on the season following a loss to Concordia on Saturday, three sets to none.
First serve is scheduled for 7:30 PM tomorrow night.
Mount Marty Men’s Golf ranks 12th after the opening day of the Siouxland Invite, shooting a 631 over the opening two rounds.
Wout Kerkhofs is the leading Lancers heading into the final day, tied for 12th after a day one 150. Guus Van Loon follows with a 156.
The tournament will conclude today.
Mount Marty Women’s Golf is 9th after the opening round of the Lila Formmelt Invite in Sioux City, Iowa, shooting 360 as a team.
The Lancers were led by Kamri Kittelson and Abigail Greenhoff on day one, as Kittelson shot an 86, followed by Greenhoff at 87.
The two-day event concludes today.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis has a home dual this afternoon against the Sioux Falls Roosevelt Roughriders.
Matches begin at 4:00 PM at the Summit Activities Center Tennis Courts.
The Gayville-Volin Raiders have moved into the top-5 of the latest Class B Volleyball media poll, ranking 5th this week.
The Raiders are 8-1 on the season following a runner-up finish at this past weekend’s “I Have a Dream” Tournament in Irene.
Chester Area remains first in the poll, followed by Warner, Northwestern, and Burke, with the Raiders rounding out the top-5
South Dakota State Head Football Coach Dan Jackson will be the featured guest speaker at tomorrow’s Yankton Quarterback Club meeting.
Jackson is 2-0 in his first season at the helm, leading the Jackrabbits to a road victory over then #3-ranked Montana State this past weekend.
The meeting will be held tomorrow at the River Rock Event Center. A meal will be available to purchase beginning at 11:15, with the program starting at noon. The public is invited to attend.
