The Lewis and Clark Legion Baseball Classic begins today, with eighteen teams set to compete across three different pools.
Yankton, Vermillion, and Crofton will all serve as host sites, with Championship Sunday being held in Yankton.
Yankton Post 12 will play in the first and last games of their pool today, beginning at 8:00 AM against Hartington and ending at 7:30 PM against Ashland. Pregame coverage begins 45 minutes before each game with Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler on the call. Game one will be exclusively on KYNTV, with game two on KYNT and KYNTV.
Four area softball teams began State tournament play yesterday, Vermillion in Class A, while Gayville-Volin, Avon, and Bon Homme compete in Class B.
The Vermillion Tanagers fell to top-seeded West Central in their opening-round game, 4 to 1. They will play 5th-seeded Sioux Valley at 10:00 AM this morning in the consolation semifinals at Players Softball Complex Field C in Aberdeen.
Bon Homme fell to Mobridge-Pollack in a high-scoring affair in round one. The two teams combined for 27 runs as the Cavaliers lost 17 to 10. Bon Homme will play Castlewood in the consolation semifinals at noon at Players Softball Complex Field A in Aberdeen.
Gayville-Volin upset the 3rd-seeded Castlewood in the first round, 12 to 5. The Raiders will face Mobridge-Pollack at 4:00 PM at Players Softball Complex Field B in Aberdeen.
Avon lost 9 to 2 to the #1 seed in Class B, Deuel. Avon will face the 5th-seeded Florence/Henry in the consolation semifinals today at 10:00 AM at Players Softball Complex Field A in Aberdeen.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits have won the Interstate Series over the South Dakota Coyotes, 14.5 to 5.5 over the 2024-25 athletic year.
The nine-point margin of victory in the series is tied for the largest for either university since its inception during the 2012-13 season.
South Dakota State now leads the Interstate Series all-time 8-5. SDSU has won four of the last five series since 2020-21.
South Dakota Coyotes Men’s and Women’s Basketball recently announced their matchups for this coming season’s Big Sky-Summit Challenge.
Both squads will play Portland State during the challenge, with the men also facing Northern Colorado while the women will play Eastern Washington.
This coming season will be the third edition of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge. The Summit League won last year’s competition 24.5 to 17.
