Local Sports 6-7-24

The Lewis and Clark Classic begins this morning with 20 teams competing across four pools.

Yankton Post 12 opens the Yankton pool at 9:30 AM against SMC, before ending day one against Legacy at 6:30 PM. 

Pregame coverage for both games on KYNT and KYNTV will begin half an hour before the first pitch. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.

Other pools will be held in Vermillion, Hartington, and Crofton. Day one schedules for all four pools are listed below.

Yankton Pool:

  • 9:30 AM: Yankton vs SMC.
  • 11:45 AM: SMC vs Fairbury.
  • 2:00 PM: Fairbury vs Blair.
  • 4:15 PM: Blair vs Legacy.
  • 6:30 PM: Yankton vs Legacy.

Vermillion Pool:

  • 9:30 AM: Vermillion vs Brandon Valley.
  • 11:45 AM: Brandon Valley vs Sioux Falls Post 15.
  • 2:00 PM: Sioux Falls Post 15 vs Dakota Valley.
  • 4:15 PM: Dakota Valley vs Lincoln Southeast. 
  • 6:30 PM: Vermillion vs Lincoln Southeast.

Hartington Pool:

  • 9:30 AM: Hartington vs Harrisburg Maroon.
  • 11:45 AM: Harrisburg Maroon vs Sioux Falls West.
  • 2:00 PM: Sioux Falls West vs Tabor.
  • 4:15 PM: Tabor vs Sturgis.
  • 6:30 PM: Hartington vs Sturgis.

Crofton Pool:

  • 9:30 AM: Crofton vs Yankton Junior Legion.
  • 11:45 AM: Yankton Junior Legion vs Sioux Falls East.
  • 2:00 PM: Sioux Falls East vs Renner.
  • 4:15 PM: Renner vs Dell Rapids.
  • 6:30 PM: Crofton vs Dell Rapids.

University of South Dakota Pole Vaulter Gen Hirata earned 2nd-Team All-American honors in the women’s pole vault with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.

Hirata finished 12th in the event, clearing a height of 14 feet, 1 and 1/4th inch, matching her height from the NCAA Preliminary Meet.

With the 12th place finish Hirata earns the 5th All-American honor of her collegiate career.

University of South Dakota hurdler Jacy Pulse was named a 2nd-Team All-American yesterday, following a 12th-place finish in the women’s 400-meter hurdles.

Pulse finished with a time of 56.54 seconds, missing qualification for the finals by just over 0.3 seconds.

This is Pulse’s 2nd straight All-American honor in the women’s 400-meter hurdles.

University of South Dakota Junior Joe Lynch is scheduled to compete in the men’s high jump at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships this evening.

Lynch is the final Coyote to compete in this year’s event. The men’s high jump will begin at 7:30 PM central time.

South Central League Baseball Results (From 6-6-24):

  • Tabor edged out Crofton 3 to 2. Jared Miller struck out 10 batters across 7 innings for the win.
  • Lesterville defeated Yankton 8 to 5. Tyler Edler and Derek Quame each had 2 hits and 2 RBI for Lesterville. Joe Gokie added 2 hits and 2 RBI for Yankton.
  • Menno defeated Wynot 11 to 9.
