Yankton Gazelles Golf is currently 8th in the Class AA State Tournament, shooting 379 as a team on day one.

Ellia Homstad is 5th on the individual leaderboard for Yankton, shooting 80 yesterday. Mitchell currently leads the team title race at 331, Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun is the top individual, as she carded a 72. Also in the top 25 for Yankton is Sabrina Krajewski, who’s tied for 22nd.

The tournament’s final round is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM this morning at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.

Yankton Post 12 Legion baseball is back in action this afternoon, as they host Watertown for a doubleheader.

Yankton is 2 and 0 against Class A opponents and is currently 6th in the standings. Watertown enters in 3rd with a 13 and 3 record against Class A opposition.

Game one is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM with game two to follow. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 2:30. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.

There will be a fundraising event at Runza this afternoon for four members of the Yankton Track and Field team for their trip to Eugene, Oregon for the Nike Outdoor Nationals.

The event will take place from 5 to 8 pm tonight, with a portion of sales being donated to the team. Tip jars will also be set up along with a t-shirt sale.

The University of South Dakota is sending five track and field athletes to the NCAA National Championships, which begin tomorrow in Eugene, Oregon.

Representing USD will be fifth-year senior Marshall Faurot and senior Eerik Haamer in the men’s pole vault, fifth-year junior Gen Hirata (Jen Her-ah-ta) in the women’s pole vault, senior Jacy Pulse in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, and junior Joe Lynch in the men’s high jump.

Faurot and Haamer will compete first, with the men’s pole vault being held at 7:00 PM central time tomorrow night. Coverage can be found on ESPN+.

The Vermillion Tanagers are currently tied for 2nd in the Class A Girls Golf State Tournament, following yesterday’s opening round at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls.

The Tanagers shot a 340 on day one and are tied with West Central. Sioux Falls Christian leads the tournament, shooting 319 as a team yesterday. Vermillion’s Ronnie Wilharm is currently tied for 4th individually, one stroke off of the leaders. Taylor Reuvers is also in the to-15 for Vermillion, tied for 14th

The Class A tournament continues today, beginning at 8 AM this morning with a shotgun start.

The Bon Homme Cavaliers are currently tied for 9th in the Class B Boys Golf State Tournament, following a day-one total of 252.

Landon Bares currently leads the Cavaliers, as he shot 79 on day one, and is currently tied for 8th on the individual leaderboard.

The Class B Boys Golf Tournament concludes today at Brookings Country Club, beginning at 8:00 AM.

South Central League Baseball Results from Sunday, June 2nd:

  • Yankton fell to Freeman 5 to 3.
  • Crofton defeated Menno 5 to 3. 
  • Lesterville swept Irene in a doubleheader. 16 to 1 in game one and 10 to 1 in game two.
