Mount Marty Lancers’ Center Fielder Autumn Porter was honored by the GPAC yesterday as the Conference Softball Player of the Week.

Porter hit for a .688 average over four games, collecting 11 hits, 2 home runs, and 8 RBI, leading the Lancers to a 3 and 1 record in those games.

Both home runs came against Houghton University, where Porter went 4 for 4 in an 11 to 2 win for the Lancers.

Mount Marty Softball split their two games yesterday, defeating Siena Heights 2 to 1, before losing to Bethel 3 to 2.

In game one, Autumn Porter and Olivia Valdez each went 2 for 4 at the plate to lead the Lancer bats. Makayla Graunke got the win on the mound for MMU.

In game two, Sami Noble went 2 for 3 with a run scored in the loss. Raegan Harper and Kaylee McNeese combined for MMU’s two runs and recorded an RBI each. 

The Lancers are back in action today for a game against Lawrence Tech at 2:30 PM, and another against Saint Thomas at 4:45.

Mount Marty Baseball defeated #15 ranked Ave Maria yesterday 6 to 2 in game one before the second half of their doubleheader was canceled.

All six Lancer runs came in the final two innings, capped off by a two-run homer from Kiko Nunez in the 7th. Clayton Chipchase got the win on the mound. Striking out two batters and allowing no hits over two innings of work out of the bullpen.

The Lancers will play another pair of games tomorrow, taking on St. Thomas at 9:00 AM, and Roosevelt University at 12:15 PM.

Mount Marty Men’s Tennis picked up a 5 to 2 win over Concordia yesterday in Seward, Nebraska.

The Lancers went undefeated in doubles play, while Jose Andrade, Alejandro Polo, Luis Laner, and Maj Langerholz picked up singles wins for MMU.

Next up for the Lancers is a road matchup with Morningside on March 20th in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mount Marty Women’s Tennis was defeated by Concordia University in their dual yesterday, 7 to 0.

The Lancers are now 2 and 3 on the year with the loss and will travel to Sioux City, Iowa for a meeting with Morningside on March 20th.

The Cedar Catholic Trojans are set to take on Lincoln Lutheran this afternoon in round one of the Class C2 Boys Basketball State Tournament.

The Trojans enter at 19 and 6 on the year as the #3 seed. Lincoln Lutheran are 17 and 8 on the year and are the #6 seed.

Tipoff from the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln is set for 3:15 PM. Pregame coverage on Riverfront Sports 94.3 FM begins at 2:45. Scott Ulrich will be on the call.

The Wynot Blue Devils Boys’ Basketball team will face St. Mary’s in round one of the Class D2 State Tournament.

Wynot enters as the #4 seed in the class at 17 and 7 on the year. St. Mary’s holds an 18 and 6 record and is the #5 seed.

Tipoff from Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln is scheduled for 10:45 AM this morning.

The Vermillion Tanagers earned their spot in the Class A Boys Basketball State Tournament yesterday with a 68 to 59 double-overtime victory over Hot Springs.

Trey Hansen led the Tanagers with 20 points. Bryson Skogsberg and Carter Hansen each added 18, with Carter Hansen also tallying 7 rebounds.

Vermillion will be the #8 seed in Class A, and take on top-seeded Sioux Falls Christian in round one. The Class A Tournament begins on March 14th in Rapid City.

The Class AA, A, and B Girls Basketball State Tournaments begin tomorrow across the state, with the Vermillion Tanagers sitting as the #4 seed in Class A.

The Tanagers will take on #5 seeded Mahpíya Lúta in the opening round, tomorrow at 1:45 PM in Brookings. The Class AA tournament will be held in Sioux Falls, with Class B playing in Rapid City. Full Brackets for each class are listed below.
