Mount Marty Pitcher Slayder Watterson was honored by the GPAC on Tuesday as the first GPAC Pitcher of the Week for the 2024 season.

Watterson went 1 and 0 across two starts on the mount against Saitn Ambrose and Mayville State last week. Across the two games, he threw for 11 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, and striking out 12 batters.

So far this season, Watterson has a 2 and 0 overall record, has struck out 15 batters in 17 innings of work, and has a 0.82 ERA.

The NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships begin tomorrow in Brookings, and the Mount Marty Lancers are sending 14 athletes to this year’s event.

  • Edwin Nyamutswa will compete in the 60-meter run, 200-meter run, and as a member of the men’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Mason Schleis will compete in the men’s heptathlon and as a member of the 1600-meter relay team.
  • Luke Rettedal will compete in the men’s shot put.
  • Logan Ferrari will compete in the men’s 5,000-meter run.
  • Nathaniel Kropuenske will compete as a member of the men’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Jacob Kueny will compete as a member of the men’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Carl Massa will compete as a member of the men’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Zavio Pratto will compete as a member of the men’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Calli Davis will compete in the women’s 400-meter run and as a member of the women’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Tianna Bumbaca-Kuehl will compete in the women’s 600-meter run and as a member of the women’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Lexi Burtzlaff will compete as a member of the women’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Alexis Even will compete as a member of the women’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Cassie Hohrman will compete as a member of the women’s 1600-meter relay team.
  • Josey Wahlstrom will compete as a member of the women’s 1600-meter relay team.

The NAIA Indoor Championships will run from tomorrow through Saturday, March 2nd. Tomorrow’s events are scheduled to begin at 12:30 PM.

Mount Marty Men’s Tennis moved to 6 and 1 on the season with their recent 7-0 sweep of Bethany Lutheran College.

The sweep was the 2nd in a row for the Lancer men, as the team has only dropped one match since the calendar turned to 2024, in a 6 to 1 victory over Northwestern on January 30th.

Next up for MMU is a home matchup with Iowa Central on Friday, March 1st, inside the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center.

Mount Marty Women’s Tennis picked up their 2nd straight victory on Sunday, as they defeated Bethany Lutheran College 3 to 1.

Alexa Salazar and Kayla Marsh picked up the wins for MMU, winning their doubles match, before picking up a pair of wins in singles play.

Next up for MMU is a home matchup with Iowa Central on Friday, March 1st, inside the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center.

Mount Marty Archers Danielle Pollard and Lalit Jain took 1st in their classes during the National Field Archery Association’s Midwest sectionals.

The Lancers placed a total of 5 athletes in the top 3 of their events. Maren Sanders finished 2nd in her class, while Savannah Chouinard and Chloe Madison each came in 3rd.

The Yankton Quarterback Club will host their weekly meeting today at noon at the River Rock Event Center in Yankton.

Today’s guest speakers are YHS Tennis Coach Ryan Hage, YHS Boys Basketball Coach Chris Haynes, YHS Girls Basketball Coach Matt Decker, and YHS Wrestling Coach Robert Coyle.

The Cedar Catholic Trojans clinched a spot in the Class C2 Boys Basketball State Tournament last night with a 53 to 48 win over Lutheran High Northeast.

Nolan Becker had a game-high 23 points in the win. Cedar Catholic advances to their fourth straight State Tournament, as they look to improve on last year’s 3rd place finish.

The Nebraska Boys Basketball State Tournament will begin on March 6th. All games will be held in Lincoln.

The #2 seeded Crofton Warriors open up the Class C2 Girls Basketball State Tournament today against #7 Clarkson-Leigh in Lincoln.

South Dakota Men’s Basketball is at home tomorrow night for senior night, as they host the North Dakota State Bison. Tipoff from the Sanford Coyote Sports Center is set for 7:00 PM.

South Dakota Women’s Basketball takes a trip to Fargo, North Dakota tomorrow for a matchup with the North Dakota State Bison. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball is at home tomorrow night, as they host the North Dakota Fightin’ Hawks. Tipoff from Frost Arena is slated for 7:00 PM.

South Dakota State Women’s Basketball is on the road tomorrow for their penultimate regular season game, as they take on North Dakota in Grand Forks. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM.
