Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Basketball is on the road this evening for a class AA doubleheader against Spearfish.

The Bucks enter with a 3 and 15 overall record and currently hold the 16th and final postseason spot in the standings. The Spearfish boys are 14th in the class at 8 and 10.

The Gazelles are 16th in the class AA standings at 4 and 14 on the year. The Spearfish girls are 12 and 6 on the year, and sit 6th in the standings.

The girls will play first at 7:00 PM with the boys to follow. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 6:30. Bryce Ladwig will be on the call.

Mount Marty Women’s Basketball will play their final game of the year tomorrow afternoon, as they take on the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Lancers defeated the Flames when the two teams met on November 29th, 77 to 52. Jadyn Jensen led the Lancers with 16 points. Kaity Hove and Maria Parsley followed with 13 apiece.

Tipoff from Omaha is scheduled for 2:00 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT begins at 1:30. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.

The GPAC All-Conference Team for Indoor Track and Field was announced yesterday, with 14 Lancers being honored this year.

Representing MMU on this year’s list are Edwin Nyamutswa, Alexis Even, Mason Schleis, Josey Wahlstrom, Logan Ferrari, Marcus Jnofinn, Jacon Kueny, Cassie Hohrman, Nathaniel Kropuenske, Tianna Bumbaca-Kuehl, Donovan Breckenridge, and Michael Beyer.

To be considered an all-conference honoree athletes must have finished in the top eight of an event or top three in a relay event at the GPAC Championships.

Day one matches for the 2024 South Dakota High School Wrestling State Championships took place yesterday, with Yankton’s Edly Amaro, Peyton Eustace, Shayce Platt, Dylan Sloan, and Jaclyn Kyte all completing their opening-round matchups. Results for each athlete are listed below:

  • Edly Amaro (B-285) – Amaro fell to Watertown’s Micah Hach via pinfall in round one. Amaro moves to the consolation bracket with his next match against Braden Petersen of Sioux Falls Lincoln.
  • Peyton Eustace (B-215) – Eustace lost to Aberdeen Central’s Ayden Gisi by pinfall in his first match. His next matchup is against Miles Yitagesu of Sioux Falls Washington in the consolation bracket.
  • Shayce Platt (B-150) – Platt defeated Dakota Valley’s Bennett Lukken in 1:03. Platt fell in the quarterfinals to Keaton Vessells of West Central via pinfall. Platt will face an opponent yet to be determined in his first consolation match.
  • Dylan Sloan (B-138) – Sloan was defeated by Sturgis Brown’s Beau Peters via decision. Sloan falls into the consolation bracket with his next match against Watertown’s Leo Stroup.
  • Jaclyn Kyte (G-138) – Kyte defeated Huron’s Kayeleigh Bowden in 4:32 via pinfall in round one. Sturgis Brown’s Madison Snyder then defeated Kyte in the quarterfinal round via pinfall. Her next match is against an opponent yet to be determined in her first consolation match.

Day two of matches at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM this morning.

Mount Marty Baseball is set to play their first home games of 2024 tomorrow afternoon, as they host Mayville State University at Riverside Field.

The Lancers are 5 and 3 on the year after splitting a 4-game series last week with Saint Ambrose. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 PM tomorrow afternoon.

The Cedar Catholic Trojans advanced to the Class C2 District Finals for Nebraska boys basketball last night, defeating Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 48 to 45.

Jaymison Cattau hit a three-point shot with 10 seconds remaining to give the Trojans the win. The game-winner gave Cattau 10 points on the night. Alexander Kuehn led the Trojans with 15.

With the win, the Trojans advance to next week’s District Finals. No opponent has been set at this time.

The Crofton Warriors Girls Basketball team is one win away from a spot in the class C2 State Tournament, as they host Ord tonight in the District Finals.

Crofton is currently 24 and 0 on the year, claiming their subdistrict title with a 54 to 34 win over Cedar Catholic last week.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Coverage for the game can be found on Riverfront Sports 94.3 FM beginning at 5:45. Scott Ulrich will be on the call.

South Dakota Men’s Basketball fell to the Kansas City Roos last night, 82 to 78.

Kaleb Stewart was USD’s leading scorer with 25 points. Lahat Thioune added a 10-point 11-rebound double-double in the loss.

Next up for USD is a home matchup with Oral Roberts tomorrow at 1:00 PM.

South Dakota Women’s Basketball moved to 19 and 9 on the year last night with a 74 to 60 road victory over Kansas City.

Grace Larkins and Walker Demers tied for the team-high in scoring with 19 points apiece, while Carley Duffney joined them in double figures with 14 of her own.

Next up for USD is a road game against Oral Roberts tomorrow at 2:00 PM.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball is now 16 and 12 on the year, following last night’s 97 to 70 win over Denver.

Matt Mims led the charge with 21 points on the night, followed closely by Zeke Mayo with 20. YHS Alum Matthew Mors was 3 for 3 from the field, adding 7 points and 4 rebounds in 17 minutes for the Jacks.

Next up for SDSU is a home game tomorrow against St. Thomas. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM.

South Dakota State Women’s basketball remained undefeated in Summit League play last night with a 73 to 64 win over Denver.

Paige Meyer led the team in scoring with 17 points. She was followed by the trio of Mesa Byom, Madison Mathiowetz, and Brooklyn Meyer with 16 each.

SDSU is on the road again tomorrow for their matchup with St. Thomas at 1:00 PM.
