Local Sports 1-12-24

Due to severe winter weather throughout the area, Yankton High School has postponed multiple athletic events that were scheduled to take place this weekend.

  • Yankton Bucks Basketball vs Watertown has been postponed from tonight to February 20th. The game will be held at 7:00 PM in Yankton.
  • Yankton Gazelles Basketball vs Watertown has been postponed from tonight to February 20th. The game will be held at 7:00 PM in Watertown.
  • Tomorrow’s basketball doubleheader between Yankton and O’Gorman has been postponed, with the two games being rescheduled as stand-alone games. The Gazelles will play O’Gorman on January 22nd, while the Bucks will face the Knights on January 29th. Both games will be held in Yankton at 7:00 PM.
  • Yankton Gymnastics was supposed to compete in Huron tonight, but that has been postponed to a later date that has yet to be determined.
  • The Yankton Wrestling triangular that was scheduled to take place last night has been postponed to January 23rd. Yankton will take on Aberdeen Central and Brandon Valley beginning at 5:00 PM in Yankton.
  • Yankton Gazelles Wrestling was supposed to travel to Harrisburg today for a meet, that has been canceled with no plans to reschedule.

Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Basketball are scheduled to be in Jamestown, ND tomorrow for a GPAC doubleheader against the Jamestown Jimmies.

Both Lancer teams enter the contest coming off of losses to Hastings College on Wednesday, while both Jimmes squads are also coming off of losses to Dordt earlier this week.

The women are scheduled to play first at 2:00 PM  with the men’s game to follow.

Mount Marty Track and Field is scheduled to host their indoor Mount Marty Opener tomorrow at the Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Fieldhouse in Yankton.

Tomorrow’s competition would be the first in over a month for Mount Marty, events are scheduled to begin at noon.

South Dakota Men’s Basketball was defeated by the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles last night, 84 to 66.

Kaleb Stewart was the leading scorer for the Coyotes with 21 points on the night. He was followed by Paul Bruns, who scored 13 points in the loss. 

The Coyotes have a week off before their next game, as they host St. Thomas next Thursday night at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center in Vermillion.

South Dakota Women’s Basketball is now 12 and 6 on the year following last night’s 91 to 78 loss to Oral Roberts.

Kendall Holmes led USD in scoring with 21 points, followed closely by Grace Larkins with 20. Larkins flirted with a triple-double on the night, as she added 10 assists and 8 rebounds.

The Coyotes are off until next Thursday night when they take on St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM next week.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball improved to 9 and 8 on the year last night, as they edged out St. Thomas 81 to 80.

Zeke Mayo hit the game-winning shot with 6 seconds remaining in the contest, as he had a team-high 25 points for SDSU. Mayo also led the team in rebounding with 9 on the night.

The Jackrabbits are scheduled to return to action tomorrow with a road game against Denver. Tip-off is currently scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday.

South Dakota State Women’s Basketball picked up their 10th win of the season last night, defeating St. Thomas 75 to 55.

Brooklyn Meyer and Madison Mathiowetz (Math-o-witz) each scored a team-high 19 points in the win, with Meyer adding 10 rebounds and 6 blocks for a double-double.

SDSU is currently scheduled to host Denver tomorrow afternoon inside Frost Arena. The tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM.
