Local Sports 1-3-24

Yankton Bucks Basketball was defeated by Huron last night, as the Tigers grabbed a 56 to 50 decision.

Landon Potts led Yankton in scoring with 22 points and 7 steals before fouling out late in the 4th quarter. Tucker Gilmore secured a double-double on the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Yankton, now 1 and 5 on the year, travel to Mitchell on Friday for a boys/girls double-header against the Kernels. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:30 with the tip-off of game one scheduled for 6:00 PM.

Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Wrestling returns to the mats tomorrow night, as they host Mitchell and Harrisburg for a triangular at Yankton High School.

Tomorrow’s triangular will be the first for Yankton Wrestling since December 19th. Matches begin at 5:00 PM.

Yankton Quarterback Club will host their first meeting of 2024 at noon today at the River Rock Events Center in Yankton.

This week’s featured guest speakers will be Yankton High School Athletic Director Ryan Mors and Mount Marty University Athletic Director Andy Bernatow.

Gayville-Volin’s Spencer Karstens surpassed 1,000 career points last night, leading the Raiders to a 59 to 50 win over Scotland.

Karstens had 22 points and 10 rebounds to secure a double-double in the win, while his brother Preston also tallied 9 points and 7 rebounds for the Raiders.

Next up for the Raiders is a trip to Irene-Wakonda on Friday night.

South Dakota Men’s Basketball opens the Big Sky-Summit Challenge this evening with a home game against Eastern Washington.

USD enters with an 8 and 7 record, following their loss to Omaha on New Year’s Eve. Eastern Washington sits at 6 and 7 coming into tonight’s game, having picked up wins in back-to-back games.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

South Dakota Women’s Basketball begins the Big Sky-Summit Challenge tonight, as they will be on the road against Montana.

USD is coming off an overtime win over Omaha on New Year’s Eve and is currently 11 and 4 on the year. Montana is in the midst of a 5-game win streak and is 8 and 3 on the year.

Tip-off from Missoula, Montana is scheduled for 8:00 PM.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball will be in Ogden, Utah tonight for their matchup with Weber State.

SDSU are 7 and 7 on the year following their 19-point victory over North Dakota on New Year’s Eve. Weber State are currently 9 and 4 this season, a perfect 6 and 0 on their home floor.

The tip-off is slated for 8:00 PM.

South Dakota State Women’s Basketball will compete in their first game of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge tonight, as they will be on the road against Northern Arizona.

SDSU are 7 and 5 overall coming off of their win over North Dakota on Sunday. Northern Arizona enters tonight’s game on a 5-game win streak, with a 9 and 3 record.

Tip-off from Flagstaff, Arizona is set for 7:00 PM.
