Local Sports 12-22-23

Yankton Bucks Basketball fell to 0 and 4 on the season last night, following their 54 to 45 loss to the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles.

The Bucks had a pair of players score in double figures, as Landon Potts led the way with 20, while Carson Ness had 12.

Yankton has over a week off before their next game, which will be on December 30th against Brookings.

Yankton Gazelles Basketball took the undefeated Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles to overtime last night, but Aberdeen would pull away late to defeat Yankton 57 to 53.

Claire Tereshinski led the way for the Gazelles, scoring a game high 31 points in the loss. Tereshinski was followed in the scoring column by Macy Drotzmann, who added 15 points of her own.

Yankton has over a week off before their next game, which will be on December 30th against Brookings.

South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball now holds a 7 and 6 record on the year, following last night’s 69 to 66 loss to San Diego.

Paul Bruns scored a game high 24 points for USD. Two different Coyotes recorded double-doubles in the game, as Bostyn Holt had 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Lahat Thioune (La-hot Toon) had 10 points and 16 rebounds.

USD are off until December 29th, when they open Summit League play against North Dakota State.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball ended the Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational with an 0 and 2 record following last night’s 84 to 65 loss to Norfolk State.

Kalen Garry had a team high 17 points, as he was one of three Jackrabbits with double digit points. Garry was joined by Zeke Mayo, 11, and Nate Barnhart, 10.

SDSU are off until they open Summit League play against North Dakota on December 31st.

South Dakota State Women’s Basketball were defeated by #21 ranked Creighton last night, 58 to 46.

Paige Meyer led SDSU in scoring and rebounding, as she recorded 12 points and 7 boards. Tori Nelson added 10 points, as well as leading the team in assists with 6 and steals with 3.

SDSU are off until they open Summit League play against North Dakota on December 31st.

Avon’s Courtney Sees recorded an uncommon double-double in the Pirates 66 to 14 win over Colome last night.

Sees had 28 points and 10 steals to secure her double-double, as the Pirates forced 38 total turnovers in the win.

Avon moved to 4 and 2 on the year with the victory.

  • Bon Homme topped Alcester-Hudson 42 to 35.
  • Gayville-Volin beat Canistota 45 to 38.
