LOCAL SPORTS 12-8-23

Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Basketball have a home double header this evening, as they take on the Harrisburg Tigers. The Gazelles enter the game at 2 and 0 on the year under first year head coach Matt Decker, while the Bucks will open their 2023/24 campaign, following their state championship victory in March. The Gazelles will play first at 6:00 PM with the Bucks to follow. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:30. Bryce Ladwig will be on the call.

Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Basketball will be in Mitchell, SD, tomorrow afternoon for a GPAC double header against Dakota Wesleyan. The women will play first at 2:00 PM with the men to follow. Pregame coverage on KYNT will begin at 1:15. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.

Yankton Bucks Wrestling swept their triangular last night, picking up a 66-18 win over Dakota Valley, and a victory against Vermillion.  Devon Coke went 2 and 0 across the duals with a pair of pins for the Bucks. Shayce Platt, Chase Howe, Peyton Eustace, and Brooks DeLozier also picked up pinfall wins against Dakota Valley, while Joelton Reimnitz-Hahn, Dylan Sloan, Bode Thurman, Edly Amaro, and Damian Janish took home pinfall victories against Vermillion. Yankton will next compete in the Sioux Falls Washington Invitational on Saturday, December 16th.

Yankton Gazelles wrestling took a 12-6 win over Dakota Valley, and drew with Vermillion 6-6 in their triangular last night. Winry Yaggie picked up a pinfall victory in the Gazelles win over Dakota Valley, earning the only pin of the night for Yankton. Yankton will next compete in the Sioux Falls Washington Invitational on Saturday, December 16th.

Yankton Gazelles Gymnastics posted their highest score so far this season last night, as they posted a 130.65 as a team, finishing 4th in a quadrangular in Mitchell. The hosting Mitchell Kernels won the team event with a score of 148. Ava Koller finished 2nd individually in the floor competition for Yankton, and she also had the highest score of any Gazelle on the vault and bars. Burkely Olson was the highest finisher for Yankton on beam. The Gazelles will next compete in a triangular on Tuesday in Huron.

Mount Marty Track and Field will be in Seward, Nebraska today for the opening day of the Concordia Bulldog Early Bird Meet. Today’s events are scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM, with tomorrow’s action set for 9:00 AM.

The South Dakota Coyotes football team will compete in their first FCS Playoff Quarterfinals in program history tomorrow afternoon, as they host the North Dakota State Bison. Kickoff from Vermillion scheduled for 1:30 PM. The winner of the quarterfinal matchup will face either Furman or Montana in the semifinal round.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits football team are three wins away from repeating as FCS National Champions, as they square off with Villanova tomorrow morning in the FCS Playoff Quarterfinals. Kickoff from Brookings is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday. The winner will face either Idaho or UAlbany in the semifinals.

South Dakota Men’s Basketball returns home tomorrow night, as they host CSU Bakersfield inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball will be on the road tomorrow night, as they take on Wichita State. Tip off between the Jackrabbits and Shockers is set for 6:00 PM.

South Dakota State Women’s Basketball will be on the road tomorrow afternoon, as they take on Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM.
