The Yankton Bucks are 2nd in the final Class 11-AA football media poll of the year ahead of the opening round of the state playoffs.

            Pierre remained in the top spot of the poll, as they have all season long, with Tea Area 3rd, Watertown 4th, and Aberdeen Central rounding out the poll in 5th. Sturgis received votes in the final poll as well.

            Yankton opens the 2023 class 11-AA playoffs on Thursday, at home against Huron. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.

*MEDIA POLLS FOR CLASES 11-AAA, 11-AA, AND 11-A AT END*

            Yankton Gazelles volleyball will be on the road tonight, as they face the Tea Area Titans in Tea at 7:00 PM.

            The Gazelles currently sit 15th in class AA with three matches left in the regular season. The top 16 teams at season’s end qualify for the SoDak 16.

            Mount Marty volleyball will be at home tomorrow night for a match against Concordia University.

First serve from Cimpl Arena is set for 7:30 PM, with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 7:00 on Wednesday. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.

Mount Marty men’s and women’s soccer will be on the road tomorrow night for their double header against Waldorf.

The men will play first at 5:00 PM, with the women’s match set to begin at 7:00 in Forrest City, Iowa.

The South Dakota Coyotes and South Dakota State Jackrabbits are both ranked in the top-4 of the latest FCS Stats Perform poll, ahead of their clash this weekend.

The Jackrabbits remain the top ranked team in the country following their 17 to 10 win over Southern Illinois, while the Coyotes jump to 4th after their 17 to 3 victory over Indiana State.

The Jackrabbits and Coyotes are the only teams left in the Missouri Valley Football Conference who are unbeaten against FCS opponents. The two teams will square off in Vermillion on Saturday.

South Dakota Coyotes running back Charles Pierre Jr. has been named Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week, following his career high 107 yards on the ground against Indiana State on Saturday.

Pierre also found the endzone in the 4th quarter of the game, helping the Coyotes seal their 17 to 3 win. Pierre’s TD run was 81-yards in total, the longest of any Coyote player since 2007.

Yankton Quarterback Club will host their weekly meeting tomorrow at the River Rock Event Center in Yankton.

This week’s featured guest speaker will be Mount Marty head women’s basketball coach Alan Bertram, as he discusses his team ahead of their season opener on the 27th. The meeting will begin at 12:00 PM noon.
