LOCAL SPORTS 9-29-23

The Yankton Bucks football team will have their homecoming game this evening, as they host the Brookings Bobcats at Crane-Youngworth Field.

            The Bucks enter the matchup 2nd in the class 11-AA standings with a 4 and 1 record, while the Bobcats come in 1 and 4 following their win last week over Douglas.

            Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM this evening with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 6:00. Bryce Ladwig and Josh Boelter will be on the call.

            Mount Marty Football will host their Lancer Days game tomorrow night at Crane-Youngworth Field, as they take on Dakota Wesleyan.

            The Lancers have fallen in three straight games, all to teams inside the top-15 in the national rankings, as they look to get back into the win column tomorrow night.

            Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV slated for 5:00. Steve Thum and Tehl Tanner will be on the call.

            Yankton Bucks and Gazelles cross country took 2nd in both the boys and girls divisions in class A at yesterday’s South Sioux Invitational.

            Dylan Payer, 2nd, Harrison Krajewski (Kra-ski), 6th, and Abe Chance, 10th, all took home top-10 finishes for the Bucks, while the Gazelles had three runners in the top-7 on the girls side. Rilyn Jackson took 5th, Anny Johanneson 6th, and Delaney Youmans 7th to lead the Gazelles.

            Yankton will host the rescheduled Yankton Invitational on Monday at Fox Run Golf Course.

            Mount Marty volleyball will be on the road this evening, as they travel to Sioux Center, Iowa for a match against Dordt. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

            Yankton competitive cheer and dance will take part in an invitational tomorrow afternoon in Sioux Falls. Events are scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM, with the event taking place at the Sanford Pentagon.

            Yankton Bucks golf will open the 2023 class AA state tournament on Monday, as they travel to Brandon for the meet. The two-day event will be held at the Brandon Golf Course, with tee time for day one set for 9:00 AM.

In South Dakota:

Yankton Bucks:

  • Yankton defeated Tea 37 to 26 last week to move to 4 and 1 on the year.
  • The Bucks host their Pioneer Days game tonight against Brookings. Kickoff at 7:00 PM, pregame on KYNT and KYNTV at 6:00.

Avon Pirates:

  • Avon defeated Corsica Stickney 30 to 14 last week, in what was a top-5 matchup in Class 9-B.
  • The Pirates are ranked 3rd in class 9-B this week, and they play another tough opponent tonight. They will be on the road against undefeated Alcester-Hudson who are ranked 5th in Class 9-A.

Bon Homme Cavaliers:

  • Bon Homme fell to 1 and 4 last week with a 26 to 22 loss to Platte-Geddes.
  • The Cavaliers will be on the road tonight, taking on 4 and 2 Chester Area.

Gayville-Volin Raiders:

  • Gayville-Volin were defeated 52 to 22 last week by Alcester-Hudson.
  • The Raiders play their third straight home game tonight, as they host Freeman-Marion-Freeman Academy.

Irene-Wakonda Eagles:

  • Irene-Wakonda were shutout last Friday by Howard, 53 to 0.
  • The Eagles look for their first win of the year tonight, as they’re on the road against 0 and 5 Burke.

Scotland/Menno Trappers:

  • Scotland/Menno are 1 and 5 on the year following last week’s loss to Wagner.
  • The Trappers will be on the road tonight, as they take on Flandreau.

Vermillion Tanagers:

  • Vermillion got back in the win column last Friday with a 14 to 0 win over Custer.
  • The Tanagers return home tonight, as they host Chamberlain inside the DakotaDome.

In Nebraska:

Bloomfield Bees:

  • Bloomfield claimed their third straight win last week, as they defeated Randolph 68 to 8 to move to 4 and 1 on the year.
  • The Bees return home this evening, as they host 1 and 4 Creighton.

Cedar Catholic Trojans:

  • Cedar Catholic fell to 3 and 2 last week, as they were defeated by Oakland-Craig 24 to 21.
  • The Trojans will be on the road for the second straight week, as they meet West Holt this evening.

Crofton Warriors:

  • Crofton moved to 5 and 0 last week, with a dominant 72 to 14 win over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.
  • The Warriors look to remain undefeated this week, as they are on the road this evening against Homer.

Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats:

  • Hartington-Newcastle picked up their first win of the year last week, defeating Wakefield 65 to 27.
  • The now 1 and 4 Wildcats look to make it back-to-back wins this week, as they host Tri-County Northeast this evening.

Wynot Blue Devils:

  • Wynot remained undefeated last week, as they defeated Creighton on the road, 54 to 14 .
  • The 5 and 0 Blue Devils look to make it 6 straight wins this week, as they host Wausa this evening.
