The Yankton Gazelles fell in five sets last night to O’Gorman in their first game under new head coach Tayler Stacey.

            Macy Drotzmann led the Gazelles with 16 kills, while Camille McDermott and Ava Koller (Collar) set the table for the Yankton attack, as both recorded double digit assists.

            Yankton returns to the court tomorrow, as they hit the road for a matchup with Dakota Valley.

            The Yankton Bucks golf team finished 5th out of 16-teams in yesterday’s Pierre Invitational at Hillsview Golf Course in the state capital.

            Easton Vellek was the top finisher for the Bucks, shooting a 2-over 74, which tied him for 7th individually at the event. Also for the Bucks, Eli Larson posted a 76, Parker Riley shot a 77, Kai Cody shot a 78, Miles Krajewski (Kra-ski) tallied an 81, and Henry Homstad carded an 86.

Yankton will compete again on Friday in an Invitational in Huron.

            The Mount Marty Lancers women’s soccer match that was scheduled for this afternoon has been postponed, as the Lancers are now scheduled to meet York University on Monday, August 28th.

            Jamestown University of the Great Plains Athletic Conference announced yesterday that they had applied to leave the GPAC and join the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

No timetable on a decision was released at the time, but if invited to the NSIC, Jamestown would not only switch conferences, but transition from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II.

Eight players from four South Central League Amateur Baseball teams were announced yesterday as members of the All-Tournament teams for the class A and B state tournaments.

In Class A:

  • Will Rauch and Sam Schonberg represent the Yankton Tappers.

In Class B:

  • Riley Rothschadl, who won the batting title in the class B tournament, and Chase Kortan represent Tabor,
  • Michael Drotzmann, Tanner Van Driel, and Alex Wagner represent state runners-up Lesterville.
  • Dustin Livingston represents Menno

The Yankton Quarterback Club will host their first meeting of the 2023-24 athletic season today at the River Rock Event Center in Yankton.

            This will be the first meeting held since the closure of former host site JoDeans, with Yankton head football coach Brady Muth being the featured guest speaker. The meeting will begin at noon.
