Yankton Bucks and Gazelles soccer open their 2023 season today with a double header against Sioux Falls Lincoln at Crane-Youngworth Field in Yankton.

            Both the Bucks and Gazelles enter the season receiving votes in the Class AA preseason polls, following first round exits in last year’s state playoffs.

            The Gazelles will play first at 4:00 PM, with the Bucks scheduled to take the field at 6:00. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 3:30, Brayden Butler will be on the call.

            Mount Marty University announced on their website yesterday that they have formed a partnership with Nike and BSN Sports, beginning with the 2023-24 season.

Starting this year, Mount Marty student-athletes will be wearing Nike uniforms, footwear, travel gear, and other items of apparel, with BSN Sports being the official outfitter for all 20 of MMU’s varsity programs.

The Great Plains Athletic Conference released their preseason polls for men’s and women’s soccer yesterday. The MMU men’s team enters the season ranked 10th, while the Lancer women were picked 13th.

Hastings took the top spot on the men’s side, while Jamestown were picked 1st for the women.

Yankton Gazelles Tennis are in the state capital this afternoon, as they begin their 2023 season with a triangular against Pierre and Rapid City Central.

            Yankton will duel Pierre at 1:00 PM, followed by a matchup with Rapid City at 4:00.

            Yankton Bucks Golf will compete in their first meet of the season on Monday, as they travel to Brandon for day one of the Warrior/Lynx Invitational.

            Day one of the event begins at 2:00 PM, and will take place at the Brandon Golf Course.

            The Yankton Tappers will meet the Brookings Cubs this afternoon in Mitchell, as the loser will be eliminated from the Class A Amateur Baseball State Tournament.

            First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM in the elimination game.

Lesterville and Tabor of the South Central League both advanced to the Class B Amatuer Baseball semifinals last night with a pair of victories.

            Tabor took an 8 to 6 victory over Lake Norden, while Lesterville outlasted Winner-Colome 4 to 3.

            Tabor and Lesterville will match up with each other in the semifinals, as they will meet tomorrow night at 5:30 PM. The winner will advance to the state title game.
