The North Central District Health Department of Nebraska has announced that Weigand Beach on the Nebraska side of Lewis and Clark Lake has tested positive for E. coli.
Yankton County Commissioner Dan Klimisch says that when he learned of the positive test, he called the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and National Resources to confirm the reports.
Klimisch says that his motivation for reaching out about Weigand Beach was to keep people in the area informed about the situation.
While the elevated E. coli levels remain at Weigand Beach, those who choose to swim in or around the area are encouraged to not ingest any of the water, and to wash themselves, their animals, or anything else that came into contact with the water shortly after leaving.
