The 2023 Para Swimming World Championships began yesterday in Manchester, England, and Yankton native Hannah Nelson will be competing during the event.

Nelson will be one of fourteen athletes from nine different countries competing in tomorrow’s Women’s S10 400m Freestyle. Heat races for the event will begin shortly after 9:00 AM tomorrow morning, with the final taking place Wednesday evening.

Tabor Post 183 advanced to the final day of the 2023 Class B Legion Baseball State Tournament, as they eliminated Redfield with a 5 to 3 victory last night.

            Tabor scored all five of their runs in the fifth inning of last night’s game. Easton Mudder drove in two of the runs on his lone hit of the ball game, while Riley Rothschadl got the win on the mound, pitching 6 and 2/3rds innings, and striking out eight batters.

            Tabor will play Elk Point-Jefferson today at 1:00 PM, with the winner advancing to face Dell Rapids in a winner-take-all title matchup.

The University of South Dakota football team had three defensive standouts announced as members of Phill Steele’s FCS Preseason All-American Team yesterday afternoon.

            The three Coyotes on the list are defensive back Myles Harden, linebacker Brock Mogensen, and linebacker Stephen Hillis, who’s originally from Hartington, Nebraska.

Hillis and Mogensen were the two leading tacklers for the Coyotes last season, and were also top two in the Missouri Valley, while Harden was 4th in the nation in turnovers forced when he suffered a season ending injury in week 6. USD officially begin their fall practices today, with their opening game scheduled for August 31st, as they travel to face the Missouri Tigers.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference announced yesterday that their preseason poll, and All-Conference Team would be released today during the conference’s media day. The official announcement is expected at around 8:00 AM this morning.

The South Dakota Class B Amateur Baseball State Tournament begins tomorrow night in Mitchell. Lennox Only One will meet Milbank at 5:30 to open the tournament, while the 2nd and final game of day one will be between Flandreau and Lake Norden.

The first South Central League team to compete in the tournament will be the Tabor Bluebirds, who play Akron at 11:00 AM on Thursday.
