The Class A Senior Legion Baseball State Tournament begins tomorrow morning in Yankton, and all games will be broadcast on KYNTV beginning at 9:30 AM.

Schedule for Day One of the State Tournament (7-25-23):

  • Game 1: Sioux Falls East vs Harrisburg Marron, pregame at 9:30 AM.
  • Game 2: Harrisburg Gold vs Aberdeen, pregame at noon.
  • Game 3: Brookings vs Rapid City Post 22, pregame at 4:30 PM.
  • Game 4: Yankton vs Renner, pregame at 7:00 PM.

            Yankton Fury Red, Fury Black, and Fury Fire all competed at the Class B 18-Under Northern National Softball Tournament in Papillion, Nebraska over the weekend. Yankton Fury Red and Fury Black both went 2 and 2 in the bracket portion of the tournament, while Fury Fire went 0 and 2.

            Seventeen teams from six different states competed in the double elimination tournament, with Golden Girls 18u from Norfolk being crowned champions.

Class B Northern National Tournament Results for Yankton Teams (Bracket Games Only):

Fury Red:

  • Fell to Fury Black 6 to 2 in game one.
  • Defeated Fury Fire 14 to 1 in game two.
  • Beat Cheyenne Extreme 9 to 1 in game three.
  • Eliminated by Bennington Elite 6 to 5 in game four.

Fury Black:

  • Defeated Fury Red 6 to 2 in game one.
  • Beat Tri-State Titans 12 to 4 in game two.
  • Fell to Fusion Synergy 6 to 4 in game three.
  • Eliminated by Bennington Elite 11 to 3 in game four.

Fury Fire:

  • Fell to Tri-State Titans 8 to 0 in game one.
  • Eliminated by Fury Red 14 to 1 in game two.

The Yankton Junior Legion baseball team earned a spot in the Junior Legion state tournament last night with a 13 to 7 victory over Aberdeen.

Owen Wishon and Austin Gobel combined for 9 RBI for Yankton, as both tallied triples in the victory. Frankie In’t Veld struck out four batters over the course of 3 2/3rds innings on the mound to secure the victory.

The 2023 Junior Legion State Tournament will be held in Harrisburg beginning on July 28th, and runs through July 30th.

The Yankton Bucks golf team officially begins their season on August 7th, and registration is currently open to boys entering the 7th through 12th grades that are interested in joining the team.

Students can sign up online via a link provided on the Yankton School District Facebook page. Sign up can also be done in person, as Coach Sime and Coach Indahl will be available in room 235 at Yankton High School at 9:00 AM this morning.

Tabor were crowned Region 4B baseball champions over the weekend with a 7 to 0 victory over Mount Vernon-Plankinton-Corsica-Stickney, earning them a spot in the Class B State Tournament.

Landon Smith pitched the complete game shutout on the mound, striking out seven batters en route to the victory.

This year’s Class B Tournament will be held in Redfield, as Tabor will meet Salem in the opening round on July 28th.

Hartington advanced to the Area C-1 American Legion Baseball Tournament final yesterday, as they defeated Crofton 11 to 3.

Jaxson Bernecker led the way for Hartington as he went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple and two RBI. Bernecker also earned the win on the mound, striking out five batters in as many innings.

Hartington will either have a rematch with Crofton, or a meeting with Wisner-Pilger tomorrow night, depending on the outcome of their game this evening.

In Amateur baseball news, the Tabor Bluebirds and the Crofton Blue Jays punched their tickets to the District 6B championship game last night with a pair of victories.

Crofton defeated the top seeded Lesterville 7 to 3 to earn their spot in the final, while Tabor took their place opposite Crofton with a 10 to 5 victory over Menno.

The district 6B championship game will be held this Saturday, July 29th, at 7:00 PM.
