Yankton Fury Red will open the 2023 South Dakota JO FastPitch Softball State Tournament today in Sioux Falls, as they are set to compete in the “A” Division.
Fury Red enter the state tournament with a 10 and 8 overall record, as they’ll meet Sanford Sports Academy Red at 1:30 and Brookings Outlaws at 3:00 today in pool play.
Today’s pool games will decide Yankton’s seeding in the double elimination bracket that begins tomorrow.
Yankton Post 12 have their first games of the 2023 Gopher Classic today, as they will play West Fargo and Elkhorn on the Campus of the University of Northwestern at St. Paul.
Yankton will meet Millard West tomorrow, as well as Buffalo and Hastings on Sunday to round out pool play. The top team from each of the sixteen pools in the Gopher Classic will advance to a single elimination bracket, beginning on Monday.
South Central League Baseball Results (7-6-23):
- Freeman picked up a 5 to 2 road victory over Menno. Bailey Sage drove in three runs for Freeman and hit a home run in the win. Both teams return to action on Sunday, as Freeman will travel to Wynot, while Menno will host Crofton
- The Yankton Tappers moved to 9 and 2 in league play this season with a 5 to 3 win over Crofton. Will Rauch homered for the Tappers, while their pitching staff struck out ten Crofton batters in the win. Crofton will return to the diamond on Sunday for their game with Menno, while Yankton are off until their regular season finale on July 13th against Tabor. The Tappers would end the year atop the South Central League with a win in their final game, regardless of other results around the league.
