The Yankton Post 12 legion baseball team improved to 12 and 1 over the weekend, as they finished the rain shortened Lewis and Clark Classic 3 and 0.

Yankton could only play one game each day due to weather delays and cancellations. They defeated Blair 6 to 1 on Friday, Sturgis 6 to 4 on Saturday, and Nemaha 8 to 7 yesterday afternoon, as the game ended on a walk-off sac-fly by Josh Sheldon. Matthew Sheldon led the Yankton bats over the three-day event, as he went 5 for 9 with 3 RBI and a home run during the games.

Yankton will next play in the Dakota Classic next weekend in Sioux Falls. Thirty-Five teams from six different states are slated to take part in the event.

Before the final game of the weekend for Post 12, Yankton senior Josh Sheldon was honored as the first recipient of the Kyle Mueller Memorial Scholarship. The Mueller family said that they wanted the scholarship to go to the Yankton Post 12 senior who most embodied the late Kyle Mueller.

Josh Sheldon ended the day with a big moment as well, as he drove in his brother Matthew to earn a walk-off victory against Nemaha in the Lewis and Clark Classic.

The Yankton Fury Red softball squad played five games over two days this weekend, as they went 1 and 4 in the Extra Innings Invitational.

Yankton’s lone win of the invitational came yesterday, as they defeated TSC Blaze 10 to 1. Fury Red ended the invite with an 8 to 6 loss to Sanford Sports Academy Red, as they are now 3 and 4 on the season.

Yankton Fury Red will be in action again next weekend, as they take part in a Father’s Day weekend tournament in Yankton.

The Yankton Fury Black softball team moved to 4 and 2 on the year, as they went 3 and 1 over the weekend.

Yankton defeated Raging Thunder 12 to 0 on Saturday, before playing three games yesterday. In those games, Fury Black defeated RC Crush 4 to 1 and the Yankton Fury Hornets 11 to 0, before falling in the final game to Brakers 9 to 7.

Yankton Fury Black will return to the diamond tomorrow for a double header as they host SD Thunder at Riverside Park in Yankton. First pitch scheduled for 6:00 PM.
