The Yankton Gazelles golf team sit 7th in the Class AA state tournament following yesterday’s opening round, as Ellia Homstad’s score of 77 puts her in a tie for 5th place individually.

            Homstad, an eighth grader for Yankton, shot a par on 14 of the 18 holes on day one. Elsewhere for the Gazelles,  Elsie Larson shot an 87, Sabrina Krajewski (Kra-ski) scored a 90, Gracie Brockberg shot 91 and Madison Ryken shot 99. Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink leads the individual standings, as she was the lone player to finish day one under par.

            Day two of the state golf tournament begins early this morning. Elsie Larson, Sabrina Krajewski (Kra-ski), Gracie Brockberg, and Madison Ryken will tee off between 8 and 9 AM, while Ellia Homstad begins her final round at 10:00 AM.

            Yankton Post 12 legion baseball carry a 7 and 1 overall record into this afternoon’s double header against Watertown Post 17.

            Today will be the first games for Yankton since their victory in the Kyle Mueller Classic championship game over Lincoln Southeast on Sunday. First pitch of game one from Watertown will be at 1:00 PM.

            The South Dakota Legion baseball standings were released yesterday morning, and Yankton Post 12 sit atop the standings with 47 powerpoints after the opening week of their season. Yankton are one of three teams at the top that are undefeated in league play, alongside Sioux Falls East and Mitchell.

The Yankton Fury Red travel softball team will open their 2023 summer season today, as they host Sioux Falls Cyclones White. The game will be held at the softball field at Riverside Park, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 this evening.

            Elsewhere for Yankton softball, the Fury Black squad will also open their season this week, as they travel to Wayne, Nebraska on Thursday for a matchup with the Wayne Dirt Devils.
